Title: Closet Latches
Post by: Jan & Richard on February 16, 2020, 12:22:53 pm
I just completed the change over from gold colored fixtures to satin nickel.  I replaced the kitchen and lavatory faucets, the various light fixtures and the cabinet knobs but mostly I used good old Rustolium paint.  We will see how well the paint holds up.

Closet latches were another item I replaced because they get so much use that I knew paint would not suffice.  So therefore I have three closet latch mechanisms, three recently purchased gold colored latch buttons and two gold rings that encircle the buttons.  (l managed to destroy one ring in the removal process)

If anyone would like these latches they are free for the asking.  Please PM me if interested.

Richard

Hi Richard!  What did you replace the closet latches with?

I searched "push button cabinet latch" on Amazpn and bought them there.  You could also do a web search of that term and probably find them elsewhere if you wish.  Because of the thickness of the Foretravel closet doors you will need the little extension for the button.

Some will have the mechanism in the center of the latch base, these are not the ones you want.  Th correct ones have a wider part of the base to one side of the mechanism.  Wide range in prices, cheap ones don't seem to last very long.

use ones like this one
MASO 2pcs Push Lock Push Button Latch Keyless Door Lock 26mm Brown for RV... (https://www.amazon.com/MASO-Keyless-Motorhome-Furniture-Cupboard/dp/B0816C51KT/ref=asc_df_B0816C51KT/?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=&hvpos=&hvnetw=o&hvrand=&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584001428594019&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=1286428961035928&hvadid=80401898246917&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584001428594019&hydadcr=)

FT doors are thicker than these are designed for, save the shaft extension on the OEM latch.

They must be good!

Use pushbutton latches shaped as the referenced one is shaped.

I have used these AMT Package of Five Cabinet Lock Keyless Push Button Cabinet Latch for... (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBP67MM/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B01NBP67MM&pd_rd_w=fSuQ1&pf_rd_p=7d37a48b-2b1a-4373-8c1a-bdcc5da66be9&pd_rd_wg=zyPkt&pf_rd_r=2N2ETFPKHDEYS5ZDB7QC&pd_rd_r=5e1d92ca-31db-4343-9c9f-9a20bc8eab9b&smid=A2FF1BC847KTZW&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExTEE3WEQ0Rko2MEVVJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjUyMDkwRkM0SUI3VURWOUtNJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA2ODE3MDZKMVBLQVBMWkFYVyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbCZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=)

Available in 1, 5 and 10 packs.  The alignment of any of these with the hole in the door is important to how the pushbutton works, it can get stuck in the trim ring or if the catch piece is too tight it may not release.  The OEM screw holes might not match the latch and the hole in the door.  The plastice screw tabs will split if you over tighten the screws. If you change the felt bumpers on the door or add more or change to a different bumper it may change how the door latch releases.

As with most things some adjustment may be needed for best operation and a bit of patience.

Rockler used to have these but they were $25 each.

I order them from Foretravel HQ. They work and I provide a little support to the company.
