Going to replace this and the main serpentine belt with Gates greenies. Any tricks to releasing the tension on the ac compressor to remove belt and therefore remove main engine serpentine belt?
Thanks
Just look at the compressor mounting brackets and figure it out. There will be two or three (maybe more) mounting bolts that must be loosened slightly to let the compressor move, and some sort of tension adjustment bolt that must be slacked off to remove the belt.
Ok. Looks pretty straight forward. Thanks
Get Green Stripe HD, even if you must wait an extra day.
Loosen 4 bolts and back the adjuster rod out and I removed it with a large screwdriver. Still very tight with all the slack out.
Thanks
It is possible that the belt you removed was a little too short. Previous owner might have fitted the wrong belt.
Try looking up the A/C compressor belt numbers listed in link below and see if they are any longer than your old belt.

It could feel relatively tight getting the v belt over the rim of the pulley but are you saying the belt is still tight after seating in the pulley. If that's the case then either you don't have the compressor adjusted down far enough or as said above someone before you put to short a belt on.. Not uncommon to have to use a screwdriver to get the belt over the pulley rim coming off and going on but after on it should have enough slack in it to need adjusting with the slack adjusting bolt.
I have the same model 8.3 as you and if you need it I can get you my belt number in the morning.
No. I have it . Thanks much
So glad these have side radiators. Sooooo much easier to work on with the rear hood up
