Title: Splendide Washer dryers are made in italy. But where exactly?
Post by: Koppi on February 23, 2020, 09:28:23 am
I have a Splendide vented Washer dryer 2000. Unfortunately it doesn´t work and I don´t want to fix it and read in the web, that the Splendide Westland WD2100XC  would do a lot better job that the 2000. When I buy it in the USA, I have to pay a lot for shipping and  customs taxes to get it over here to Germany. These units are made in italy. I tried to find out where exactly they are produced, but couldn´t find anything. Does someone here happen to know, where they come from?

Westlandsales.com  is a USA source.

Do you see any listed on the German Amazon site?

It might be worth an e-mail to Westland Sales, which is the parent company (and apparently only sells to the US and Canada).  They might be able to direct you to the branding in the EU.

Found a thread on a Country Coach forum that contains a clue to origin...  See Reply #7.

Splendide washer dryer (https://www.countrycoachforums.com/index.php?topic=17428.0)

Following the "clue" leads to:

Indesit Company - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indesit_Company)

Perhaps a few (?) euro passed under the table to the right person might score a generic no-name "Splendide" washer?

Another clue from Australia.
Washer Dryers Combo | Ariston Washing Machine and Dryer Combo Set (https://ariston.com.au/laundry/washer-dryer-combos/)

Make sure you get "vented" version.  I've had both.

Koppi,

Please keep in touch and let us hear of your travels on The Continent.  We don't have very many active foreign members, and we always enjoy the stories (and hopefully photos) of adventures in far-away places.

These are ones I removed from my FT to install all in one Splendide 2100XC.  They were a Majestic brand of stacked versions, seemed quite similar to Splendide.

I have just ordered a German standard "not vented" washer dryer. I have spent some hours to find out how I can get the  2100XC from Italy, no matter which brand is written on. No success. Fact is, that in Europe nobody sells  a vented washer dryer. I have found only a few vented dryers.  The condeser type wash dryers bring the water, which is produced while drying, with in the greywater hose and don´t collect it in a bowl, like older condenser dryer used to do it, so it is OK to be used in a vehicle. I´m not a full timer, actually we don´t even have time to spend vaccations with the coach, but I want the vehicle to be complete and working. (Every vehicle has a soul and the foretravels have especially big ones....). I think, that the new washer dryer will be delivered in the next few days, so I have time for doing the electrical part. Here in Europe our AC is 230Volts and this is what the new washer dryer wants to have. Of course I have already an additional 230V Inverter (doing 6000W !)in the coach but not wired in the area where the washer is.

@Chuck & Jeannie: For foreigners it feels strage writing in English. My native language is German of course, we learn English at school, but I always think, that sometimes the way how I say or write something, may not meet 100% the sence I want to express. Unfortunately I can not report from special adventures at the moment. At the moment it is cold and rainy. Interesting could be, that last weekend I have sold my old RV, Safari Trek Pathfinder Diesel 1996. Interesting because I have sold it to an American, who has married a German wife and lives here since many years. He saw the RV and liked it, but his wife saw it and fell in love with it, so he had to buy it.

I LIKE that!  Somebody needs to put that on a T-shirt.

Don't worry about your ability to write in English.  You express yourself very well...better than many people born and raised in our country.

Interesting that you have owned two USA built motorhomes.  I would imagine it must be very expensive to import a RV to Germany.  Would be great to hear the stories behind how your 2 coaches made the long journey over there.

Safari built a very nice Class A coach in the 1990's.  The interiors and wood cabinets were beautiful, and some of the floor plans were quite unique.  We actually took a long hard look at a 1993 Safari when shopping for our coach, but eventually ended up with our fine old U280.

Glad you found a suitable washer/dryer.  I always forget about the different AC voltage standards over there.

Where there's a will there's a way.

Your English writing is fine, no problem, no issue with understanding. I only speak English and am jealous of your language ability. My wife's native language is Portugese, has two degrees in English and Grammer and two certificates from the University of Oregon to teach English as a second language, and Spanish as a second language, to grad students. I so understand, English is not easy to learn, let alone write.  Keep up your posts, they are better than just fine.

Your washer/dryer should be fine. The one I had years ago opperated fine, just took longer to dry. Often I did small loads and hung up cloths to dry in shower.

I find it interesting you say "of course we learn English in school".  Here in the US most only speak English and do not grasp the knowing of how learning multiple languages opens so many new horizons.

I worked for Volswagen for 15 years in the US as a dealer for VW, and went to every Stuttgart auto show during that time.  Had a great time, wish I'd spoke German.

Here is a video of my coach. These are no special effects, it´s just a dirty lens on the cell phone:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlyib7EOo7E
The main reasons for me to drive an American RV are the space these vehicles offer and the way they look. I bought the Trek some years ago. The preowner is American and from time to time he came over to Germany for some weeks or so. He lived in the Trek and had another car to be mobile. He became older and coming to Germany was more and more exhausting for him, so he decided not to come back to Germany, sold his passenger car and could not sell his RV as quickly as he wanted to. He just left it over here and asked a friend to sell it for him. Even he didn´t bring the car to Europe, he also bought it from an American, who used the vehicle in England. The problem is, when he wants to sell a car in Europe and has nothing but the US title, he will hardly find a German who will buy it, because you will have a lot of work with the car to make it fit German regulations. Another problem was, that the customs tax for the car was not already paid.  I have found the car in the internet and I just liked the way the interior looked like and that it is not only plastic but real hard wood. After the work was done and we could use the Trek on the road, we found out, that with two (crazy) kids, it is still to small. I made my boatdrivinglicense and the next problem was, that I could only tow 2000kg, which means, that many boads are to big to be towed by the Trek. So the search for the perfect RV went on....

Koppi,  One thing, if you are not already aware of, is the Splendide will wash more than it will dry.  So, we wash the two queen size sheets and pillow cases but dry one sheet and pillow case at a time.  This gives much more space for the warm air to circulate in the drum to dry the sheet.

I too like your english.  But you need to come across the pond to Texas so we can fill you up with Texas Brisket Bar-B-Que.

We have many German immigrant desendents here in Texas, proof positive a German person makes a really good Texan.  Like you, they are conversant in both German and English.  Come on over.

All the very best.

@Rudy: I have been in th US 18 years ago. We have spent our honeymoon in Florida. Concerning BBQ: My father in law is butcher and trust me, he knows his job very very good! But that wasn´t the only reason I have married her....

Our first trip with the foretravel was up to Denmark. It was our "testtrip". It was october last year. I hope, I manage to attach the pics. In the picture you can see, that German RV parks are not planed for US RVs.

Beautiful coach!  You would be welcomed at any Luxury RV Resort anywhere in this country.

I guess that German RV park did not have "pull through" spots available.  Some of our older state parks over here are almost as tight.

Our coach is 40' plus our tow car on a 2-wheel dolly behind it, so we always request pull-through spots in RV parks.  We do occasionally have to unhook our tow vehicle to back into a parking spot, but with planning and advance reservations that is the exception.

As I wrote, I sold the Trek because it could only tow 2000kg. But the "boatproblem" is not over jet: The fortravel is 11,20m from the frond end to the trailier hitch. The maximum length included the trailer is 18m in Germany. Only exception is for commercial truck with 18,75m. Allowed is to let the load hang over 1,5m in the back, so I think Iwill solve the boatproblem with a boattrailer a little to short for the boat. Our country is full of regulations and the EU makes it even more complicated.

Would be nice to visit if possible.
