Title: I'd love to see a Foretravel coach. We're in the St Louis, Missouri area.
Post by: Twolanes on February 25, 2020, 05:42:06 pm
Hello,
After considerable research into a new coach I find I'm becoming a real Foretravel fan!  My wife and I are beginning our search for a new coach and find that on paper the 2000-2005 line of Foretravel coaches might fit our needs.  The problem is this; the only Foretravel we've ever seen is on my computer screen!  And although they look great on my computer, I'd really like to see one in person.  I'd also like to spend some time with a knowledgeable owner.  We are located in St Louis, Missouri, and if not too far away, we'd certainly be happy to travel to meet someone that wouldn't mind showing us their Foretravel.  We're particularly interested in the U320, both 38' and 40'.  The 42' might be a little too big, but if there's one nearby, we'd love to see it!

Alternatively, perhaps there's a Foretravel rally we could attend?  I'm not in a great hurry to buy the new coach, but when the right one becomes available I want to be informed and be able to somewhat confidently plunk down my hard earned cash.

Thanks

Sam Williamson

Sam,

Have you looked at MOT (Motorhomes Of Texas) in Nacogdoches, TX.  Might be worth taking a few days and go down there.  If you want to be able to look at multiple coaches of the year(s) / model(s) you mentioned,  that's where I'd go.  You will get a real good idea about what all the "fuss" is about.  We have had our coach for just over 2 years now and it's possible to drive around the whole USA and not see one Foretravel!  You did come to the right place as there are many here who will answer a lot of your questions.

We don't have the coach that you want, but if you are interested in looking at an older 91 GV just to see what FT quality is all about, we are in Anderson, MO and would enjoy showing you our rig and telling you what we have learned.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

Greeting, Sam.  Hope you are able to find a coach to view.  Link below to member map.  Not many members right near your neighborhood.

As Dave says, a trip to Nacogdoches (we call it NAC) would be well worth your time.  You could see the Foretravel factory (FOT) and even get a tour if you timed it right.  MOT is right across the road from FOT (which we call The Mothership).  It's only about 650 miles from St. Louis to NAC.  In Texas we call that a day's drive (including a long lunch break).

There is a mid-south rally March 18-22 in nachitoches Louisiana if your in to a road trip.. they had 50 spots, all are reserved with a waiting list so there would be plenty there to see.. and of course everyone likes to talk coaches!  I would love to show you mine...  it may possibly be for sale...
Hope to see you there!

Sam,
We may be putting our 2003 40 ft U-320 on the market in a few weeks due to health issues.  If you would like to discuss, feel free to give me a call.

You could show up at any almost any "event" and tell whoever is standing around that you are a prospective purchaser.  I can safely guarantee that you would receive multiple offers to "take a look inside our coach".  Foretravel owners are, in my experience, a very accomodating bunch of good-natured show-offs.  While not seeming uppity or condescending, they are proud of their classic RVs and love to conduct guided "tours".

Sam - you're on the same track that I was.  Researching and talking with knowledgable people.  Once I decided on Foretravel, I also honed in on the 2000-2005 years as the sweet spot for older coaches.  Made the trip to Nacogdoches, TX and spent most of a day with the folks at MOT looking at and driving several coaches.  Continued searching and looked at a couple that were for sale close to me and eventually purchased ours from a member in Mason City, IA.  Had to put a little work into it, but no surprises so far and the bones on these coaches are solid.  Good luck and enjoy the search!

Wow!  What a great response from the Foreforum members.  Thanks to everyone for offers to show me their coaches and answer questions.

I have spoken with MOT and will most likely make a trip there, but will probably wait until they have a coach in inventory that matches our needs.  But before then, I'm going to try and make it to a rally and hope to see a nearby coach within the next few weeks.  Several memebers have sent me PM's offering to show me their rigs.

I guess its probably best if I ask questions in another thread?  It's great fun learning about different manufacturers, comparing specifications, and finding the rig that fits our needs.

Thank you all for your help.

We will be heading north near the end of April.  Route is undetermined but coming from central TX.  We are never it too big of a hurry so we can maybe meet somewhere.

I would humbly suggest that you put less emphasis on visiting only when a specific criteria are met and consider visiting sooner.  You may find what you think you want and what you end up wanting (or liking) once you see a few coaches in person can be very different.

Case in point we bought something somewhat different that we were originally looking for, and kept it for 12 years, selling only because a project was going to keep us off the road for a few years.  We still haven't seen a coach with as smart a floorplan for our needs those years (it was custom, and another forum member now owns it).

We were cosmically blessed it seems.  Probably the only coach we would have really wanted was offered to us out of the blue.

Rv'ed In a hundred coaches back in the mid 80's up to mid 90's as a sales manager in the rv biz.

We said "someday we will own a Foretravel."

Turns out the coach was a mid entry U320.

Sold.
