Title: Is this my original 1996 shore cord?
Post by: Saltfevr on March 03, 2020, 02:49:09 pm
Im 5th owner of my first ever FT. Owned now  for 3 yrs.
Last nite in Thousand Palms,  CA, winds howled 30mph all nite. Power went off at pedestal for several hrs. My neighbors came on, mine never did.
Im using 50a dog  bone to parks 30a service. Been here 30days no problem. I checked pedestal for correct wiring and voltage.  All ok.
Even polished up brass male contacts on plugs.
I think it's the power cord,  my voltmeter probes weren't long enough to test female ends.
As you see, po moved wet bay cord connect to lr near left taillight.
Should i replace with Marinco 25ft 50a and same Marinco right angle adapter?

Btw,  when at FT in 2014, James paged me from waiting room. Tech's didn't know where to plug in their drop down ac cord.  Lol

Forgot to say, after tighting 50a cord to right angle adapter,  and twisting cord lightly, i heard the thud underneath bed, and power restored.
Built in progressive 50a protector all ok, showed 0 code

That external 50 amp inlet is NOT OE.

We've been a few places where that rear plug receptacle would have been very handy.  As an alternative we carry a extra 30' 50A extension cord (plus the 50' on the cord reel).

Brett, as I mentioned, a previous owner moved original wetbay 50a ( plug in )to near LR taillight.  Gave him extra room in wetbay and got closer to ppedestal.
I dont think my model had cord reel. Thanks

When I do not have power and feel I should I go and check to make sure I have the plugs twisted tight. That has fixed problems in the past.

Always make sure when you are twisting that plug, that you have the post breaker off, twist plug, then turn breaker back on.

I like the new location. Good idea if it stays dry

If you are still having issues, we are not far from you at the Palm Springs Thousand Trails park parallel to I-10 in Palm Desert.  I might can help solve your issues.

ONLY one good solution:

SmartPlug
SmartPlug Shore Power Connections | what is a smartplug (https://smartplug.com/)

Here is how to install in the OEM location:
SmartPlug 50 Amp Shore Power Cable Installation (http://beamalarm.com/Documents/Modifications/smartplug-50-amp-shore-power-cable-installation.html)

We greatly prefer the OEM plug location as it keeps the expensive cord end inside a locked compartment, reducing theft.

I second both the smart plug AND keeping a very expensive cord inside.
