Just a WAG but it looks like the cover for the engine ECM unit diagnostic port that is located in the engine bay.

It also covers the plug by the driver's left foot that you can hook the VMSpc up to.

Can't say for the engine bay but it looks similar to the one for the VMSPC as Rich said.

Some models like ours have an OBD2 port in about the same location. You can purchase adapters from Deutsch to OBD online. I looked in the footwell and found the plug, however
My scan gauge is plugged in there, hence the extra cover.
