Title: Power Reel issue
Post by: DavidS on March 22, 2020, 05:49:18 pm
Power Reel shorted out.. causing me some issues.... Found a burnt wire in the Reel.. is this supposed to totally tight? or space between the flat bar and the square piece below it.. thinking it needs to be tight.. so it downs short out but wanted to make sure first.

It has brushes under it that pass the current to the Copper wheel below..

I'm for tightening them down,  but no experience.

David,

Yes
You will most likely have to make a brush holder as the last time I checked they are no longer available.

Interesting damage on the copper rings from loads.  Probably the auto stop indexes the parts in the same alignment every time.

Fully in?  Fully out?

Good luck on this. No hill for a climber.

The future permanent  fix is what most of the industry switched to as did some of the marine industry and install a Glendinning cord reel.  No contacts. Permanently wired. I  lost the water hose reel as the cord reel had to be sideways in the limited space.

Power extension and retract on a remote.  My unit was a Monaco unit

My assumption is  the black square thing is the isolater for the wire? it has some brass or copper pieces that the brush sits in...I am going to flatten the flat bar piece and maybe go to a larger screw on a couple as they are stripped a little.... thinking of just putting in a marine plug Like Bob mentioned but we will see what I can do with this thing.

Really!  I would try and fix what you've got.
Can't be rocket surgery.

I'm sure you'll figure it out and it will be better than new when you're done.

David,

I may have a used brush holder from a scrapped reel that had similar damage yours has. I will go up to the shop tomorrow and check and see if I still have it.
