I mounted two of these, or at least similar, 300 lb units. (For access to water pump, rear start switch, belts, tentioners, etc.) Although I feel safer with the compartment lifted, I am afraid it is stressing the hinge mechanism and/or attachment point.
So yes, I still tie both left and right hinges with a bungy cord, as I fear a failure.
Warning to all with this type one piece heavy engine door lift system. Secure hinges at both sides when raised as on mine, a slight breeze would blow it to close, possibly falling on your head or back, if you were in the way.
My question is, ....has anyone else replaced these 26 inch struts with a suitable # of lbs replacement.
This is what I used.

Good morning Jack how are you?
I checked my struts this morning which were replaced just prior to me buying the couch.
They are "spring lift" brand and are marked 170#.
You stated yours are 300 pounds is that per pair?
Hope you and your family are doing well
Frank
Thank you Lt403, that helps, my 300# pair of struts definitely will go next chance I get. My ones I replaced were 150#, so I'll next try something closer to 170#.
Anyone else who inputs, their experience is appreciated.
