Title: front generator door spring lifts
Post by: dans96u295ft on April 15, 2020, 08:52:16 pm
Need to replace the two springlift shocks on the genny front door. SL-20, 091/095, 601-387-8114 are the only numbers I find. The ball sockets are larger than the side doors? Brad sent me two from FT but they were the small sockets and wouldn't work. Any help would be appreciated. I don't know the poundage. Rear door for engine were 120lbs look like 13 closed and 20 extended overall

It is easier to change the balls at this point rather than changing the strut.

The struts are weak, so I have to change them. I've changed every strut but these on the entire coach

The struts Brad sent you are correct except the balls? Then use the right size balls for them. Or I don't understand your issue.

All the balls should be 10 mm

Yep. My front hood is the only strut balls on the entire coach that are larger the 10mm. I'll try to find 10mm balls and replace them. Maybe FT ran out that week

I did the same project 14mos ago, which I posted here. Found exact replacements, 135lb suspa brand C16-08376. 2 for $25.
Fot had them, but i saved with free Amazon shipping. Had a helper, and used a 30in pipe clamp with dimpled drill bit ends.
Safety glasses,a must, good luck.

Ok. Bought 4, 10mm ball studs to replace my larger ones and ordered the 135lb struts saltfevr recommended. Work great although they have the snap on clamps, not the wire clamps to secure them.  I used straps to pull the strut down an inch or so and then held the hood all the way up and popped them on. Do one side at a time, not both at once. Heavy hood!!!
Thanks for the help. It pops open as soon as I pull the hood latch. Very nice. I've now replaced every strut on the coach. Shout out to Brad at FT. He helped a bunch
