Split off from a recent thread about new mattresses. The mattress in my coach was 20 years old. I think it was eight or nine inch thick and it was a coiled mattress. It was actually not too uncomfortable to sleep on and wey put a gelfoam memory topper on top. Still needs a new mattress. I really wanted to go with a purple mattress like David has but I'm a side sleeper and at around 240 lb now I felt that the thicker one would be the one that I would have to get. Those are really heavy, and thick. And they're also very expensive. I got on this mattress forum website and asked a question about what would be the best mattress on top of a big diesel engine. Didn't get a very good answer. So I decided to make my own. I went to a website called DIY natural bedding. I had them make me a queen-size ticking that was expandable. I had to make it for a 9 inch mattress expandable to 11 inches. It was made with organic cotton. I got it a couple weeks ago but it's at in the box until today. I also got three in of natural latex in a queen-size. It's my pretty decent latex. From sailrite I got four in of high-density marine-grade foam, in a medium firmness. So the ticking unzips and opens like a book, and when the four inch high density foam, on top of that 2 inch memory foam gel infused, on top of that the latex, and on top of that I put spun wool. I also got that from the DIY natural bedding shop. I zipped it all up. Haven't slept on it yet. They say it takes up to a week for the foam to fully expand. I have room to add some more if needed. I also thought about putting in a froli travel under the mattress. This is like mini coils that go under a mattress to not only allow airflow but also act as springs as well.
time will tell how good this mattress is but I expect it will last the rest of my life. The really nice thing about it is it's adjustable. All I have to do is unzip it and change the densities or the thicknesses. And it's adjustable and expandable. You can also take the outer ticking off and wash that if you needed to.
Looks like a great idea, let me know what you think after a few nights. We're in the same boat. OG Sinking Mattress.
Great idea! What was your source for the gel infused memory foam?
Interested.....looking forward to updates!
Wife bought it when we got the coach. Made the bed tolerable. I want to say she bought it on Amazon, but could have gotten it locally at Target or bed bath & beyond or something like that. It was just a memory foam topper with gel infusion.
he said waiting now for the foams to fully expand and then I'll zip down the expandable part of the ticking to make it all tight.
Won't be sleeping on it till June.
Also got a wooly bolas pillow kit from diy.

I overfilled it. Need to remove some.
I like down pillows but this gives great support when you need it like sitting up in bed.
Just got some Brookline sheets too.
We're on day 2 now of a new Nectar Queen Mattress, We'll give an update, (everyone sleeps differently though)
I just used the reviews on Tuck Sleep | Sleep Product Reviews and Information (http://www.tuck.com) - 1 year sleep return
Getting an exact replacement with the curves at the one end was WAY too expensive, I contacted the original supplier in Washington.
