Hello,
I am now the proud owner of a U320 1997 Foretravel. It is in need of some TLC.
Something I will tackle first is the rat situation. A large rat was living in the understory and I need to clean all storage areas.
I am having trouble pulling out the large slide storage unit. Can anyone tell me how this works?
Thank you very much!
Sandra
On our '97 the tray is on that goes all the way across the bay. On the passengers side (curb side) of the coach the tray has a latch handle that is on the right hand side as you look at it. We can rotate that handle about 45* counter clock wise and this will unlock the tray lock so you can slide it out. Foretravel used several different units so yours may be different. Some coaches had a split tray that came out both sides from the middle but there latches were about the same.
With age and non use you may have a couple (or more) of the bearings that the unit roles on froze up and in need of replacement. These are available at any good bearing store or off the net.

In addition to cleaning out below the tray: You need to make sure all are gone, so best to set rat poison or traps, carefull of pets and birds.
While you work below, they can go on to living in the metal wire and line walkway down the center and roof of your storage bays. In that area there are are fuel lines, air, hydraulic, gas, and electrical.
Next, impede their return. You can buy a huge pack of Irish Spring on Amazon. The odor, many say, will keep them out of that walkway.
While you have it off, place opened Irish Spring bars at both ends where there is access to the outside. Also check wires and hoses for rodent nibbling, they love wire insulation. Usually here the wires are big enough they only damage the insulation, not the wires.

This is different than in the roof a/c ducts where the a/c wire is small, they can eat clear thru. Also check all drawers and cabinet areas for droppings.
Most importantly, be careful, desease is spread thru rodent pee and droppings, best to google safety in cleaning up after rodents. This is no joke. At rv stores I worked at this was treated as a hazardous cleanup. Even dust from a vacuum can transmit.
"Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) is a serious respiratory disease transmitted by infected rodents through urine, droppings or saliva. Humans can contract the disease when they breathe in aerosolized virus."
Welcome. On our '97 the drawer handle simply lifts straight up - a bit, and then the drawer pulls out. Our mouseproofer solution is a $1.99 bottle of WalMart concentrated peppermint oil (cake decorating isle) soaked into cotton balls. Scatter them in the bays, in some open, not-being-used plastic medicine bottles. You can then recap them when you choose and use, at will.
If twisting or lifting the latch bar on right side of Joey Bed doesn't allow the bed to be pulled out, the latching mechanism may be broken. My Joey bed latch "broke" a couple of months ago.
If yours is broken it isn't hard to fix. You will need to reach in from drivers side with a screw driver and lift the latching device out of the locking slot in the rail. See pic below for the latching image.
On mine the "Y" shaped yoke spread out and slipped off of the pins in the latching bar.
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new to you coach. You might wish to let us know where you are located and there may be another owner close by that can assist you in your learning adventures! Just an idea!
Welcome also.
Attach pictures of your drawer.
We LOVE pictures - all kinds of pictures.

The CDC recommends a 9 to 1 water bleach mix to eliminate any possible Hantavirus or other disease risk from the rodent urine, droppings or nests. Especially important in the Southwest. Here is their guide for how to do it: Cleaning Up After Rodents | Rodents | CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/rodents/cleaning/index.html)
A Hudson type sprayer would be perfect.

Never considered hantavirus.
Good catch
Spray real good, had the Hantavirus 4 years ago not fun. I didn't get it from the MH, but from wandering around old buildings and mines in Death Valley.
You can wander around in mines on DV, and I missed that ?
