Title: Overriding HWH
Post by: jhardman on April 25, 2020, 12:53:29 pm
Is there a way to override the HWH system if you need to raise the coach for driveway entrances etc? I understand it needs to be at ride height for travel. I just need to raise the coach when I enter/exit our driveway.

Anyone know?

I use the raise button and hold it while going through my gate.

Unfortunately, I need both hands to pilot the coach uphill (down upon exit)) driveway is about 11' for about 100' then it gets bigger at top. I don't think I can do it with one hand.

You might be able to keep it in the raised position by pulling a fuse.  I have never done that, but other members have mentioned it.  Maybe a 2 person operation as it starts to lower to travel height as soon as the raise button is released.  Manuals are on the coach which is back in storage not at my house.  Some one else may give more advice.

Thanks, Jerry! I'll check manuals, you guys are all so smart, I thought someone might know a solution that would work in my situation.  Maybe someone else with a similar solution will chime in too! Tysm!

One of the things the Motorcycle Safety Foundation beginner's course teaches is how to ride a slalom of cones with one hand.  Either hand.
In other words, all it takes is practice.

I just go real slow and steering with one hand isn't bad.

Have you tried playing with the raise button?  Do you know for sure that the coach starts to drop back down when it is released?  The reason I ask is that there are two different "styles" of raise controls used on HWH panels.

On the earlier coaches, the button is a momentary switch.  When released (with ignition switch on) the system tries to return to ride height.

At some point in time, HWH started fitting locking raise controls.  With this setup, the coach will remain in the fully raised position when button is released (even if the engine is running), and coach can be moved (slowly) without having to hold the button down.

Just thought I would mention this, in case you might have a locking button on your coach.

See .pdf file below for pertinent excerpt from HWH Leveling System Textbook:

Not sure which type came first. Mine starts dropping down when the parking brake is released.

The momentary operation is the earlier system.

Craneman my rig is the same year as yours and I think my will come down if I turn the key on. I was having problems getting in the
blocks and I think it was Chuck who had said turn the key off when it's at height. I just got the blocks in now and It works great.
My ride height isn't working right now. I went for a drive yesterday and I had to use the dump air to get it down to drive. When
I got back yesterday I thought it was fine but this morning I checked and it was too high but first I will change the front air bags.
