Title: Electricity issue.
Post by: Kennyb on April 29, 2020, 09:09:33 am
I went to plug in an appliance outside that apparently pulled too many amps and it blew the power out of all the outlets in the front of the rig. I checked the circuit breakers and even changed the line to a different breaker just to make sure. The #5 handles all the outlets from the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and cab according to the schematic and I have power in both bedroom and bathroom outlets. I followed the line back from the outdoor outlet and it goes into what looks like a junction box below the stove in a very inconvenient corner that I cant seem to find a way to reach both sides to open this receptacle where I am assuming the issue is because it is the only place I can see where these lines all converge.
Does anyone know how to get to it and/or what is inside there that could cause the issue?

The bathroom duplex outlet may be a GFCI outlet.  If so, check to see if that needs to be reset.

Its not...I checked. There is power to that outlet and another junction box inside the storage behind the toilet.

Take a table/butter knife up the left side of the terminal box and pry the retainer away from the box. Then do the same on the right side. It looks as if this box is used just as a termination box. Maybe a cable nut in there is loose or off?

Open and close every breaker regardless of how it looks....

Is there a receptacle on the outside of the coach in that location?
Anything at all on the exterior at that location?

Not sure why it would be in that spot otherwise.

Obviously there is a tap or splice in that box. If no device on the exterior then remove the box from the wall and maybe the wire will be long enough to gain better access.

As Roger said, what happens when you push test button. Of course there would be power going in, is there power coming out.  If not, time to replace.

Unless there is a wiring issue downstream that is and should trip the GFI again.

Commonly, getting water into an outside outlet does this.

I can only assume it is a wiring issue...maybe a bad ground. I used the line going to the ice maker/stove that is on the same breaker (??) and made a new line that I connected to the line going forward into the kitchen. That sent current to all the outlets. Tomorrow I will disconnect the line from the bathroom that went to the original junction. I had power coming out of the bathroom receptacle so I am assuming there was a bad ground between there and the kitchen. I just want to make sure nothing will arc between the bathroom and kitchen where I cant get to the wiring.

Kenny,
Reading post #9 it looks like you are now powering most of the receptacles in the front of the coach and probably the ones outside with a non GFCI protected circuit ?
If that is true you really should remove the first wall plug in that chain and replace it with a GFCI to protect everything on down that circuit.

Open every breaker.  Close every breaker?
