I took the cover off my tech generator cover to change the bearing and was greeted by a mess off wires and I can't even see the bearing. I expected to find the bearing in the end cap right in front of me. I am going out now to look at the book to see if I can
find out how to get at the bearing.
Sounds like you have a generator that has a brushless exciter. You will find out that you will need to remove the exciter to get to the bearing. This is a big pain compared to a generator with brushes.

Thanks Mike I just didn't want to jump into it to quickly. It looks like I could screw things up. I have no drawings on it so I will go slow.
When the bearing on mine was replaced the generator had to be excited again to start making power
Please post your results as we have 3500 hours on our power tech generator now and need to replace or re pack the bearing as well! Thanks!

You must have the front cover off to be able to see what you have described.
So look for 2 leads that may be labeled either +(R) or -(Q) and remove these screws to loosen the leads.
These 2 leads come out of a track in the shaft so be careful with these, as they stay with the shaft.
Take a 9/16" socket and remove the center bolt that is in the end of the shaft.
Put a match mark on the armature and shaft.
You should be able to remove the armature off the shaft.
This should give you the access to remove the hood/fan cover resulting in seeing the bearing.
That is all I can think that has to be done to get to where you can remove the bearing.
Going back make sure to tighten the center bolt back to 25 foot lbs.
This may or may not help but our bearing number is SKF 6207-2RSJ
If I think of a missed step (it has been a while sense have one apart) I will chime in as this is all that comes to mind as to getting to the front bearing.
@ juice, These are sealed bearings so not advisable to repack just replace.

The bearing is off. I was hoping for a simple job but once I got into it it wasn't to bad. Mike mine old bearing is a 7207 RS no name,
probably a cheap battery. I will replace it with a quality bearing. The end cover when I replace it I will use allen head screws, much
easier to deal with. Mike do you know what the J in the RSJ stands for. I think that is the clearance. The old bearing is shot but I knew
it would be when I put my stethoscope on it. The hardest thing on these bearings is driving down the road and they don't turn.
We call them box car bearings.
Juice if you want to know if you bearing OK you can use a screwdriver put your ear to it and hold it at the back side of the generator,
just before the tin cover. You will here it. As Mike said buy a new bearing, once they make noise they should be changed It's because
of this Forum that I checked mine.
No I don't know off the top of my head. You could call your local Motion ind. and they will have the low down.

Bearing is in and generator works. I re-insulated the generator area before I did the bearing and adjusted the hatch lock so the
generator is finished.
