Title: Re: Water Pump Replacement Assistance
Post by: muskyman475 on May 03, 2020, 06:22:18 pm
My fresh water pump started leaking and making all kinds of noise on my 99 U320. The pump is a Flojet 2840 with the accumulator tank mounted on the same pad. I believe  I can just replace the pump ??  However, i do not see the flojet 2840 sold separately  without the accumulator. The older Flojet 2840 label states 4.5 gpm and 40 psi pressure.    Is there another pump that will adequately replace the existing pump without alot of modifications?  I have read prior posts discussing a shurflo 4008 or the 4048.  Do either of these work with the accumulator tank ? The 4048 lists as 4.0 gpm and a 55 psi cutoff . I do not know if this is compatible or not?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I used the Shurflo and works fine. Even the mount holes worked. Just pick one with the gpm you want and buy it on line if not in a hurry. My existing fittings also worked.  However I replaced a Shurflo with a different Shurflo pump but the gpm is your key

Have you checked your accumulator to see if it's any good. I replace the whole thing 8 years ago all is well. Search for Flo Jet deck wash down system. Additionally there are any number of options.

How would I go about checking the accumulator?  Would I just see if it releases any air when pressing in the valve?

Chuck, very briefly depress the air valve on the end of the accumulator.  If air escapes, you are good.  Might want to check the air pressure which Brett Wolfe has posted the correct pressure several times.  My memory is a few pounds above the cut in pressure of the pump.

If water escapes the valve, replace tank.  My tank works great for me for years.

When checking the accumulator.  you may need to depress the valve for 3-6 seconds.

The first time I checked mine.  I just pushed for a second and just air came out.  I thought it was ok, but pressed again for a few seconds.  Water came out the second time.

Chuck,
I replaced my pump with the
SHURFLO REVOLUTION
WATER PUMP
3 GPM - 55 PSI
SUPER QUIET

The pump is very quiet, great flow and pressure and no pulsating, no accumulator tank.  Was purchased through PPL.
