We decided to update the old style original window valances and shades. I had some cherry and got to work. Made the corners so it protrudes about 5 inches from the wall, that gave me enough room for the new shades and curtains. The valance is 4 inch in height attached with pocket holes and was finished with clear tung oil, it matches up nicely with the original cabinets.
