Title: Meritor rear end Exciter/ Tone Ring ABS and seal
Post by: DavidS on May 17, 2020, 07:44:43 pm
I am looking for the info on my 2002 U320 rear axle seal with tone ring or exciter ring for the ABS .

I had read in another thread that if you replace just the seal you will lose the ABS function.. Earlier I had replaced the leaking seal and also lost the abs function.. I thought maybe we had damaged a sensor or something and hadnt had time to look it over but... I have one side leaking again.. Not sure why but the seal failed and I need to replace it plus my rotor has a crack in it from the heat so..

Anyone have the part numbers so I can track down the parts I need.. thanks

Barry's site had the info or at least part of it but I couldnt find it last week when I looked for it.

And as always thanks for the help

You might try finditparts they have a lot of Meritor parts in stock.  As for seal replacement I have never seen a seal cause a sensor to go bad.  Sounds like you may have a sensor on the fritz and possibly not pushed out close enough to the exciter ring on the hub.  I as well replaced a wheel seal on the driver side drive axle before out 2400 mile trip due to a leak and I found out why I was getting an intermittent ABS fault code, wires were damaged on wheel sensor and would from time to time short out and cause a fault also was causing a lot of transmission shift problems, after the repair coach has ran better that it ever has since the repair.

Also Fleet Pride has Meritor parts as well that's where I purchased my wheel sensor.
