Title: Sad End for Old Coaches
Post by: "Irish" on May 18, 2020, 03:59:23 pm
We all love our coaches and looking for an obsolete $25 dollar part I decided to check if Visone in KY has what I need.
Looking at their page of Foretravel coaches It struck me as sad that beautiful coaches similar to ours, proud coaches that we spend our time looking after, end up sadly abandoned like useless horses sent to the knackers yard.
To think back at how many were built every month, the craftsmen who fitted them out like luxury yachts with features that are not even found in many of today's modern coaches, Foretravel made a great product that's has inspired hundreds of people to have faith in a design from the last century!

Sadly David, the insurance companies dictate what happens to these wonderful coaches!  I tried to purchase a few items from them last year and their prices are just about as high as full retail!  I passed!

No telling what someone paid for the engine and transmission from the Nimbus.. On a lighter note at least the Foretravel shown and I suspect the ones not shown are there due to a catostrofic event ie fire or accident vs just parked as junk because it fell apart with time.

Floods?  Not fall apart.  Ever.  Hard to kill.  Number 17162

They are high but still a good source for the stuff that is exclusive to Foretravel. A couple of years ago I bought one of those wood drawers that mount over the propane tank. Pretty hard to come by junk Foretravels so I'm glad they are in business.

Supply vs demand equal market... Jack me up to much though and I will do without... Sometimes get stubborn like that..  David's point is well taken still.. It's a shame to see a good one in such a place.

We all are subject to the cycle of life. Things are born they live they die. Coaches are no different. Let's just hope that The parts can be used from these things to extend the life of others. A transplantation program so to speak. And in the end what's left will have to be disposed of somehow, recycled.
Nothing lives forever.

I noticed when looking at salvage sights that the burnt motor homes are predominately burnt at the refrigerator area, second most burnt the engine area.
Rich Bowman (forum member) advises me to get a ARP Fridge Defender to prevent a refrigerator fire.
Installation was simple, unit attaches to the rear of the refrigerator.
Their web site is very old fashioned

Just another reason I'm glad I went to a residential unit. One less thing to worry about.
