Title: Rear Bonnet Lift Spring Attachment
Post by: pthurman48 on May 26, 2020, 09:58:09 pm
I need some help on how to repair the Rear Bonnet Lift Spring Attachment.  The bottom lift spring attachment point is a ball bolted to the fiberglass body side.  The other attachment point is a ball bolted to a L-bracket in turn attached to the fiberglass bonnet.  The last pic is what I now have left on the bonnet, they will not pull out, they will spin, but what do I do with them or .....

Any ideas?

Pat,

Cut remains with Dremel tool or like.

I went to sign shop and got scrap 3x4 1/8" plate and pop riveted to the area and then reused the ball mount bracket in the same place like others have done on my bay doors (used 3/16 pop rivets here too).  May want to go bigger on the engine door?

Someone will post a picture

Figure out how to remove the bracket.
Pop rivets will do the trick OR Clean (grind flat) the surface on the inside of the cover.
Tape the outside of the cover and reglass with several layers .. due to the HD nature of the engine cover.
Maybe a small piece of rubber (like a band-aid), between your glass work and the bracket(?)
Remove tape, re-drill, install the bracket and have a beer.

You Will need to locate a 4" air roller for laying up fiberglass..
Have fun.. this ain't a big deal.  pc
