The AQ heating element (1650W) has failed. :'( In researching a new part I found there is a 2000W element upgrade available at ~ the same cost. The AH is wired with 12g and a 20A breaker which should be able to handle the extra wattage. Anyone upgrade their heating element? Problems post installation?
I have done it and have no issues at all.. I ordered a 2200w but have not used it for a couple reasons.. one is when I am stuck on a 30a plug.
David,
1. Yes
2. No
3. About 3 years ago when I changed out antifreeze and gave the tank a flush

Was it difficult to replace?
Where did you order new heating element from?
Thanks
Joe
Joe,
1. Not at all, Once the antifreeze is drained. Now I had removed the main cover long ago and put it on a shelf. I had the DBW 2010 burner out to give the extra room to get to the electric element. Make sure that the 120 VAC is off as it will bite you. There is a little cover that hides the element that has a couple of screws. This exposes the element and wiring to same. Remove the wiring and the insulation that surrounds the element head. Now you do need a water heater element socket so a trip to the home improvement store will be in order if you don't have one as nothing else will fit in that little space. Will you have to bow up on the socket to get the element loose, most likely.
2. Got it off the net. but that was too long ago to remember who it came from.
Mike
Little while back I thought my electric element was bad as well but it turned out it was just the cartridge in the kitchen sink not allowing hot water to pass. In the meantime though I did look for the 2000 watt element and could not find it.
I didn't do a huge search but a general search.
If you do find it, please post where and the part number and the link. Thanks
