Does anyone know the engine diagnostic protocol for a 2001 U320 ISM 450? J1939 or what other diagnostic protocol? Will end up with a Silverleaf but would like to purchase just a plain Affordable stand alone scan tool for now. If someone can recommend a affordable scan tool that would be very helpful. Thank you in advance
Scott
OK, I have only used the commercial quality Cummins Insite software which is pretty expensive and the VMSpc software. With either you need an J1979 interface and a Windows laptop. For the money I would buy the Silverleaf JIB interface from forum member Roger Engdahl, download the free VMSpc software from Silverleaf Electronics on your laptop and your done. You can use the diagnostic tab without setting up your screen.
Or you can use the factory diagnostic buttons found on most coaches which will give you flash codes that you can decipher for free info found on the net. One switch for the Cummins and one for the Allison.
Google is your friend. Search Cummins flash codes.
Seems all roads end up at the same place. I have been in in contact with Roger and seem to end up back there regardless.. This was for a Prepurchase
. If I had title in hand it's a no brainer. Will probably need for return trip home also. Thank you for your input, it helps

I am not sure if there is a list, probably is, but I don't know if Silverleaf has one. The codes are engine and transmission specific. VMSpc will display and save codes with a description. I got some for awhile that reported low potential (voltage) at injector 6.
Might be an alternative. There are many scanners available, here's one I've found useful. These work as real time fuel computers with selectable readouts for rpm, boost etc. They also scan codes BUT! It's still necessary to look up the codes to see what they are referring to. Not normally a problem, but I expect the silver leaf is a more slick interface. One nice thing is....plug it in, it comes online. No computer required.

ScanGauge D
$169.95
J1939 & J1708 Vehicle Monitor
Large diesel powered vehicles such as diesel pusher RVs and over-the-road long-haul trucks
Compatible with the J1939 & J1708 protocols
Okay so we are the J1939 protocols? Or was that the J1708 Protocols. I still know where I'll end up, ordering from Roger but this is what I wanted to before I'm obligated to purchase the coach. If it will read codes numbers I can look them up.

On my Cummins ISB in my truck I to got a low voltage fault. Ended up changing #6 injector no help. It was the connector at the valve cover gasket connection. Replaced valve cover harness and both connectors. Problem solved 250k miles and truck was from Michigan for 140k miles prior to me.
So would the 2001 U320 be the six or nine pin connector?
Scott
Nine pin. 2001 ISM11 has both protocols. These are what is possible on J939. Only some on the ISM11, enough.
The scan gauge comes with both. I bought this one back in 2015 before I heard about Silverleaf. I will be putting it up for sale.
Well, since this was Scott's thread, I will say that my VMSpc will be here today so you can check it out when you want Scott, to compare it to the Silverleaf.
Any current feedback on the Scangauge D? I'm struggling with the unreliability of Bluefire and it appears that VMSpc is no longer an option.
