Hya all, both my speedometer and odometer hasn't worked for a long time, I have an alinson at545 gearbox attached to my 8.2 detroit, from looking in the manual there is a generator with a geared drive that sits in the gearbox and then there is two electrical attachments which go on top of that, and there is a drive tang which goes in between, can I still get hold of a new drive tang cause I know the old one is broken, but to be honest I would like to replace the whole unit complete, where would be the best place to get hold of one of these please, would I be able to buy the complete kit, ie generator drive tang and the two sender units any help would be appreciated thanks kev
Quite a few VDO speedo shops in the U.S. I always used North Hollywood Speedometer when I was in the import/export business. They would replace the Km face and gears to the miles format and did it in a hurry. Not that expensive. Give them a call.

Someone here recently posted installing a gps speedometer no connections needed and was happy with it.
Kevin, you need to remember that your chassis is 30 years old. That being said either find the part numbers and search eBay or start searching for used parts.
Here's a quick suggestion.

My speedo worked poorly when it worked. I replaced it with a GPS Version. Works perfect so far.Make sure that you get one that states ODO on the face. My part # is listed in the what did you do to your bus thread.
You can spend a lot replacing the old stuff and still have issues.
If the tach and speedo both are faulty, double check the ground leads tothe green post under the dash.
Ah OK Mike, that sounds better, so you buy the complete kit do you, seems like a better way to do it, I presume it comes with a digital gauge does it, il try and find your thread on it thanks,
It fits the same hole, has needle. Not a perfect match but close. Easy install.
Our. 86 GV came with the 86 Chrysler Laser electronic dashboard .... bar graphs and digital numbers. Quit working... we now use an APP on our dash pad mounted Ipad for speed and odometer readings.. we lost fuel gauge but we fill up and use hours on the highway to make our stops and refuel...
Yeah my fuel gauge has also stopped working, so first I will check the earth out behind dash as Mike said, and if that doesn't do the job then il just make sure I fill the tank regular, and will invest in a new GPS speedometer, and then can use mileage as my fuel gauge, too mutch of a headache changing fuel sender unit, its probably fitted into top of fuel tank which means dropping fuel tank down to sort it, too mutch of a big job,
If your coach has been setting for a long period of time you might want to do what I did to try to forestall fuel delivery problems in the future.
On the bottom of your fuel tank is a small area that is lower than the rest of the tank bottom. It has a drain plug so you can remove it and drain out any sediment/ water/crap that has accumulated over the years.
I found out the hard way when my fuel filter changes did not alleviate my fuel delivery problem. Turns out that "crud" built up in the fuel line right before the check valve by the first fuel filter. "Crud" from fuel line deterioration, algae, tank scale dropping off built up a plug about 3" long in the supply line. And the replacement check valve is apparently scarce--AND EXPENSIVE!!
Agree. We looked into replacing fuel gauge sender and because of age and technology... we had to match the low and high OHMNs for accurate gauge readings. NOT. I can watch digital app odometer and our own need for a break to refuel.
