Awhile back we were discussing different additives to our hydraulic system which is 15-40 motor oil. I had written Lucas but didn't receive a reply so I tried again. Got lucky this time. Here is the reply:
My steering gear is not leaking (yet) but one of my fans is seeping and it looks like the seeping rate is increasing. Not enough for a drop but definitely wet. I'm going to try some of this Lucas additive. I've used Bars Leak for the coolant system in a couple of rigs with good result so I'm hoping for the same with the hydraulic system
These older rigs hold 23 quarts so I'm adding 1 gallon and a half quart or so. Same price at O'Reilly's. More on eBay.

My thinking on the hyd system is to use synthetic oil to take advantage of it's low temp flowing abilities, less pressure, less leaks, but the stop leak can't hurt.
I've had great luck with additives for auto transmissions and PS. Check the reviews and I would start with a lesser amount. I had a really bad leak on a MBZ auto trans at 280K miles where it had a steady stream out the bell housing. One quart slowed the leak in a few miles, the second quart stopped it. That was 140K ago and not one drop come out the bottom now. The chemicals in the additive soften the seals and expand them a little.
When we blew the hydraulic pump/fan hose, it ran dry but took much less than 23 quarts.

Go for it John, I've had nothing but good luck using Lucas stop leak. Including some semi-miraculous cures, I'm a believer.
Update on Stop Leak
I went full on with the stop leak method. To address the seeping hydraulic fan and preempt the steering gear seal failure I used Lucas Engine Oil Stop Leak. While I was at it I treated the engine cooling system with Bar's 1196, again a preemptive move. Finally, I went at the dash air with Red Angel. I am happy to report up to this point anyhow, there is no longer any seepage I can see at the fan, the radiator continues as it was and the dash air is blowing nice and cold.

But not good to add any Olestra Oil. I've heard it has some negative side effects.

Have used Red Angel,good stuff.
I feel "plugged up" just looking at those additives lol :o :o :o
Seepage from the rear end?
