Started on the fuel lines yesterday. Got the tank out old lines out, new lines in. All the short return hoses for the fuel cooler done, short supply lines to the pump. Somewhere along the line the rodents had a field day. A lot of work storing up all of that to watch it drivr off into the sunset. 😎
No wonder Francis didn't answer his phone.
We was being busy, nice and dirty.
That's an impressive day's work! Looks like you had a limb rat infestation. What kind of fuel lines and connectors are you going back with?
Chuck, I'm using Trident A1- 15 barrier hose, re using the old push on fittings. Trident recommends barb and hose clamp. But I can't see any reason the push on won't work once you
Push them on they are not coming off.
Tree rat #28 just won a free trip to the game farm in the country.
Just doing my part to supply the sportsmen with opportunities they are not allowed within our city limits. :))
Seems there aren't any predators within the cities that can help keep the tree rat population under control.
So my birdhouses get chewed up. The tree rats seem to enjoy digging up our lawn and climbing all over the screened decks and ripping holes in the screens.
So the DW and I are playing the parts of Pat and Vanna from Wheel of Fortune. (get in the cage and win free transport south to country living)
Just got back from having the alternator tested.
Tree rat #29 just won a trip to the country!
Bruce, are you tackling this yourself? Looks like a job for sure! Wish I had a enclosed structor and I would consider this myself, but one of the issues when one is full time on the road! Sure wouldn't want to tackle this where we are now, might have a bear or elk giving me a hand! lol
They are at the veggies now and have found their way into the greenhouse. We also use a
Have A Heart trap(s) and take them at least 2 miles away. The ground squirrels have moved into the area now. Much smaller than the tree squirrels, they dig big holes and kick the dirt out. They like the veggies too.
Pierce
Bruce, you are a better man than I - if we were nearby I would donate a free supply of custom brewed cold beverages! 8)

Bruce,
Who are you buying the hose from?
Is it cut to length?
Lead time from date of order?
Thx
Tim
My next major project, at least one being planned. How low did you get the tank and what did you offload the fuel into? Also did you use a pump of some kind? I'm also interested in the hoses, where to order, length, size, etc.
See my reply #19 in the following thread for pictures of what I put my fuel in. I used a fuel transfer pump from Harbor Freight. Used 20% off coupon, sold it for a few dollars less than I paid for it. I was able to get all the fuel out. Used racing fuel drums I sold back to to fuel supply depot I bought them from for approx $15 less each than I paid..

Amazing! How do you sort out which line does what?
Oh, tree rats #30 & 31 this morning. Two for the "price" of one. Caught both in the trap at the same time. Must have been a newly wedded couple. DW said she thought she heard one say something like:"YOU DUMBASS! I told you this wasn't a good idea!"
Must have been the female talking.
The least we could do was give the arguing couple a nice honeymoon trip to the country so they could make up.
I like that many of mine are suicidal. Choosing to fry themselves by messing with electrical system of transformer on my pwr pole. So many that sitting outside you hear the pop of the fuse.
Then there is lead poison via hollow point 22. Sorry for them that my eyesight and aim have resulted in limbs, even tails being blown off.
Good thing I dont have access to a lazer or rail gun.
No love given to tree rats. New jiff commercial makes my hands shake.
Tank is back in everything buttoned up, fuel system primed, fired right up. Glad that's out of the way
Bruce of the fifty foot rolls did you have much left over. Just curious?
Scott
Used all the 1/2", about 38' of 5/8, 30-35' 3/8. With a 36 you will use less of the main fuel lines. However if you do all your cooler lines you will use most of the 1/2.
Have not done this job yet, but I guessing if you have aquahot, you probably will use most of 3/8" off a 50ft roll too.
Just did 2 coaches with A/H and it took about 25' of 1/4" for each coach. That gives enough length so you can pull the burner and set it in a pan before you remove the hoses.
Mike
Bruce..How did you pull the old lines 5/8 out and new in ??
When Ron Riensche (Red Tractor) did mine he had some threaded couplings and he cut off the end we were pulling from (at the engine/aqua hot/generator filter) and installed it onto the new line and used the coupling to screw the old and new line together (at the tank) and then pulled while I pushed the lines through. Then cut off the other end when it was through and used that to attach the new line to the tank.
Group,
I am going to be replacing my fuel lines, ordered lines for the supply and return fuel from FT and they sent me the stuff they're using now days which is like Plex line. It's precut to 25 and 35 foot lengths. Any comments?
Steve
Steve that is very interesting. OD size should be smaller and easier to pull. Also may be less susceptible to collapsing, how does it compare in price? I really like PEX. Curious if it kinks. Is there a brand name on it or part number?
Scott
With the sizes you are getting, you are going to have couplings in the overhead and on some of the bends you will have to address the possibility of kinking. They make radius adaptors for that type of line. Personally not my choice.
Sounds like the mid brown pipe that Don's coach has installed by FT couple of years ago. Yes it is not very flexible and Bends looked large to me. I would think it would kink if you tried to make a smallish radiuos. It is not per but kinda looks like it but you can see thru the color.
What size hose did they send for fuel feed?
Johnh
Bruce. Thanks for providing information. Mike I checked with the Fisheries price and SJK was $40 dollars cheaper same free shipping and no sales tax for me. Never did figure out what the pex like material was and decided to follow your lead with the Trident. I actually have a line Ferrell tool for hi pressure hose crimping so can make up engine lines at the same time.

Full rolls much cheaper than cut to length than short four inches. Ordered today. $431 My long list isn't getting much shorter. I knew this going in. At least I'm at home in the shade with little pressure to finish til October. Only like 107 degrees today.
If your going to be dumb you got to be tough.
Thank you
Scott
The trident hose went in well. While the push on fittings are not recommended they worked fine for me. I did put a tie wrap on them with a tie wrap puller. Have fun.
Great fun doing that project. Watch the lines carefully when putting the tank back in. Easy to kink them. Whats even more fun, when alone, is putting the covers back on the overhead races. Oh yeah, now your really having fun!! Face mask is advised. Not for Covid, but rodent droppings. Thanks to Craneman for the valuable support he gave thru his posts on it, as well as comments to my thread. Helps to have another person help pull that tank out... and don't forget to LIFT it up to avoid damaging the floor due to the tank drain like I did. But a little epoxy and glass cured that.
Well worth the time and energy spent instead of having a "Professional" do it and putting in air hose instead of constant contact fuel hose"... wow I'm not bitter over that still, am I? Nah.
The Trident marine hose is what I used. Its good stuff.
Congrats on getting a dirty job done.
Did you reuse the existing fittings or purchase new ones? Not sure from the posts, but sounds like the existing ones are push on style that you removed and re-used with the new hose?
On my U295 I used new crimped on steel connectors installed and purchased from the same hydraulic Gates hose store. They work fine. You do have to be careful if mating up to original brass conectors as over tightening will cause the steel to ruin the brass fittings.
If doing it over, I would reuse the original slip on connectors. I would have to use a different hose that was rated for slip on connectors. The reason is cost and the original fittings are high quality and in my opinion easier to use.
In any case, do not stretch, kink, or twist the fuel line as this will cause premature fuel hose failure. I had no problem feeding the the hose from the fuel tank to the back. It did bind entering and leaving some of the pathways. I would just back up, and try again, until it passed freely.
Unfortunately you weren"t the only one bent over on that deal. Several members in the club.
putting in air hose instead of constant contact fuel hose"? I don't think I want to know. Hard to image, but just goes to show you have to keep a eye on just about everything in life anymore. Easier if you have some basic knowledge in what is going on, difficult if you don't. I'm set up pretty good for these kinds of jobs. I clearly knew what I was getting into although right now it's more like work, rather than a hobby
