Title: Dish satellite Local Networks
Post by: gracerace on July 24, 2020, 06:50:43 pm
Hey Dish satellite users

Just curious what the farthest distance some have received their Local networks from their home with Dish.We were in Stanely Idaho, 429 miles from home, and had no issue receiving our Spokane networks.

Another question is, has anyone used the LA networks with Dish? I was told they may be on the main Dish satellite, and you may receive them everywhere like Directv's distant networks. Or has anyone used locals that stayed with them long distance?

Cheers Chris

We spent a week in western California and got hooked up on LA stations.  We could get them in Quartzite and Casa
Grande AZ.

However we didn't get them at our next stop somewhere in NW New Mexico.

The biggest issue we had with west coast TV was that Network programming started at 8pm (rather than 7 pm in central time) and we were in AZ so another hour time difference.

When I go to AZ from Wyoming I will have my locals for a short time my box has a memory but only for a day or two , then I get Phoenix and it stays with me in all locations in AZ. Have never use the LA locals.

Dish uses spot beams for local channels. I haven't been able to find exactly how they work. I do know the larger markets have a bigger spot beam. The smaller markets have smaller beams. The smallest markets have small beams and only broadcast in SD. Like say Nacodogoches, TX. :)

There is no nationwide LA or NY beam like DirectTV.

Thanks, kid I talked to at Dish outdoors was pretty Knowledgable, said Dish did have some national networks in the past, but wasn't sure. He had heard LA.

Not many satellite maps that show much for dish out there. Most are old.

Just checking from those that have dish and travel. Really not a big deal, with our Hopper. we can watch anything off our DVR or live from the guide, anywhere there is internet. Was even watching stuff off our local antenna that I have piped into the receiver. Pretty cool.

Worse thing if need be, dish lets you switch Zips painlessly.
