Title: Hydraulic power head brake booster on my 1990 villa
Post by: kevo0000 on July 26, 2020, 08:53:35 am
Hya all, can anyone help, I'm trying to locate a new hydraulic brake booster, I have a slight leak of hydraulic oil coming out of the push rod that's attached to brake pedal underneath rubber dust preventer, does anyone know of where I could obtain a new one please, I know for a fact that no one in the UK would have one, also I need two brake light switches, and a brake pedal return spring, I've virtually finished got all the new calipers on and wheels and now able to move it back and forth 1st time in about 9 years, bit disappointed cause this has happened but will get over it, il attach some photos thanks kev

Sounds like the hydraulic brake booster has a seal that has deteriorated from age. Not a major leak. Cheaper (but a hassle to remove and replace) to have it rebuilt. Seals are pretty common size and cheap.

Kevin, yes take it off and rebuild it and you should be able to find someone that sells springs that would be close enough in tension. There must be some industrial or truck outfit that sells all types of coiled springs as we can here in Canada and US
Johnh

Try Halfords or others Kev.

Yeah I would rather just get a new one though, I replaced the master cylinder last year new, but only just noticed a leak since I got it back running again, if anyone does know where I could by the complete new unit would be gratefull, perhaps someone over there sells recondition ones, but then their is usually a core charge, so I would have to pay a deposit and then send that back to USA before I get refund, so I then have extra shipping costs, i know they are nla at freightliner, but there must be a new one out there somewhere, I'm not to keen on stripping one down and rebuilding it,

Looks like you are going to do like we say over here:"Bite the bullet." Either way it is going to cost.

Kev, just a thought but why not email FTravel and explain were you live etc and if they can source it for you after you give them the build number of coach and .maybe vin#. Who knows they may be able to help. Do you have a # etc for the unit so maybe we can do some hunting around for you as well. Pierce is very good at that and I will see what I can find out. A good full side picture will help as well.
Cheers

When you wake up in the morning send this info on vin and pump to FT with a plea to them to see if they can help you at all with info on replacement unit.
If they cannot or will not  once I get back home from mexico next weekend I will see what I can do to help.

OK thanks, have been told that because it sutch. Small leak that it may be worth putting some of this stuff made by lucas which can stop most leaks in seals so it's worth giving it ago, it's amazing what products there are on the market, I remember bout three years go I had water coming from my car radiator, bought one very tiny bottle of stop leak and it hasn't leaked since, prob 50,000 miles

But its always handy to know where I can get a replacement, cause one day I might be out on the road and it packs up completely, so will have  a spare, I like to keep a selection of necessary spares,

That looks like a 1996  ChevyP30 brake release pump. The pump pushes a piston/cable  to release the parking brake drum.

Ron, are you sure that number is correct as it looks to me to have a 1 between the 7 and 4
I have been doing a lot of searching on internet and not having luck. I did find a section on the FMCA site in May 2015 with some comments by Brett and Nighthalk

I see that they range in price from a little over a 100 dollars to around 500 dollars. The one that I have was changed because one of the mounting ears was broken off I have the broken piece tied to it. Both of mine have the master cylinder and the electric pump and switch. I wish he was closer.

The last photo you sent with the master cylinder attached, was the best one, that is the exact same as mine,  the part no. I was given by les Michael's at freightliner was a gm 1800 number, would that number cross reference to different makes, ie gm to bendix,  so would that mean there are lots of different part no.s  by different company's that make them but all link to the original?

Yes. I was scheduled to go to England on Aug 29 but trip was called of course due to travel restrictions with virus. We were also going right thru his little town Penzance on the south coast although carrying that kind of unit would be heavy for sure.
I have to quarentine what I get back this next weekend so lucky having the coach on its own lot next to house so Ruth will be separated from me. She is putting all the clothes etc I will need . Guess I am going to try to keep busy and clean and fix all the little things so I keep busy
Life is a challenge for us all right now, but good to slow down a bit.

Kev, thought you would be asleep by now. That number you posted is missing the middle number 1. Should be 2771424
The number you posted gm1800 does not give you a pump so that is not right or some #s are missing
And the last one is the one with a broken mount but can be welded back easy.
