Other than some pump internal leakage that caused it to short cycle, we did not have problems with the 4048 (referenced in Reply #17, above), in the 6 years after install. But the SurFlow 5.7 was a loser (for us) from the initial install. Many others (thousands across the RV industry) had similar problems.

I just went to the forum to see what is the best pump. Mine blew a fuse. It was in the coach when we bought it and looked new. I pulled it today and discovered it's apparently had a very slow drip for a while. I'm not going back with another of these.
The variable speed pumps from Shurflo and Flojet are problematic... avoid them like the plague.
We had the Shurflo variable speed in our last coach. It worked perfect for a few years after I installed it, then the pressure transducer cracked and fell off the pump... not related to any freezing. Wasn't a problem in that coach, since the pump was above the fresh water tank. Had it been below the water level, the bay would have been flooded.
Our Ft has a Flojet variable speed in it now (installed by PO) and it runs continuously at slow speed with no demand. After eliminating all other possible causes, I discovered this is a very common problem with that pump. New pump (Shurflo 4008) is waiting for me to install it. I went with the 4008 mainly because I had it as a spare for the last coach, and it well suited our needs for this coach. The 4008 is one of those pumps that doesn't require an accumulator, since it has a (wasteful) bypass to reduce cycling. I plan to keep the accumulator and adjust the bypass to a higher pressure than the pressure switch setting, effectively eliminating the bypass.
IMO, either brand is good, except the variable speed ones.

I recently replaced the 2840 with the shurflo 4048 and new accumulator. I am very happy with the performance.
