I finally got around to the dreaded task of fixing my generator after months of recovering from knee replacement. I tried purging the fuel line numerous times with engine shutting down after 20-30 seconds each time. I was getting ready to hook up a jar of fuel to the intake of the electric pump (with hose) when I noticed the tiny hose clamp was loose. I tightened it up, primed it and the problem was solved. I'm sure that if I took it to a diesel shop, I would have had to pay for new injectors and maybe an injector pump.
Sometimes we get away with a simple fix. The take away is to always check the easy stuff first.
Also when something does not work, "always check the easy stuff first". As in "no 12v circuits working", check the "salesman" 12v cutoff at the entry door. Gen runs, but not putting out 120v, check the breakers on the gen, etc.
So getting back to Svens post, sometimes when given an expensive repair estimate, slow down, question how diagnosis was made, posibly get a second opinion. When I first bought my U295, had intermitant rough running and hard start. To make a long story short, diag from reputable heavy duty truck repair garage, "replace injection pump", very expensive. Luckily I new of a reputable injection pump rebuilder in Portland, sent it to them, their diag, it tested out perfect. Complete fix ended being taken care of after replacing mechanical lift pump and fuel lines.
Speaking of clamps, the wrap around Euro style hose clamps don't bite into the hose and are less likely to allow air in. Here is an example. Note they don't have any perforations and have rolled edges. https://www.autozone.com/collision-body-parts-and-hardware/fuel-hose-clamp/koehler-3-8in-fuel-injection-clamp-4-pack-kef16/940355_0_0

I had those on my '68 Mustang and they were OEM. Are you sure they are European?
