I'm still trying to find a replacement for my "corner mounted" toilet. Unlike some other models, my toilet backs up against a corner closet and the bolt clearance is 8". I have not found a suitable (one that fits) ceramic unit to take its place. Has anyone solved this problem? I've tried fixing my old toilet, but the (thicker) replacement gasket does not form an adequate seal to hold the water. I don't like having a pitcher in the sink as a solution. Also, I've had issues with the complex mechanism under the closet floor that has leaked. I would be happy with a simple non electric replacement.
I don't know how much room you have but they make a toilet floor flange with a 2 inch offset, that would get you two more inches away from the wall. Lowes has them. It will depend on how much room you have above the tank opening. It would be worth looking into.
Just my two cents
Good luck
Ron
Thanks Ron, I looked into that some time back. I would build a small platform to allow for the extra clearance, but I still come up short. For example, the Aria Deluxe II has an 11" setback when I have only 8" to work with. Still coming up short.
I checked to see how much "fudge" room you might have with the Auria. After looking at the post that may not have been the best choice of words.
These pics make the tile look nasty. I promise it was very clean.
I had the same problem with the flapper gasket.
I bought one from Mullaney & assoc. a couple years ago, it was thicker than the one that was on and did not seal. I ended up re-using the old one and put up with the bowl slowly draining.
Last year I contacted Mullaneny again and they told me they had reports of the problem and now had a new gasket that would work. I ordered the new gasket #27207 and the problem was fixed. Mullaney didn't even charge me for the gasket but did charge a $8 shipping fee. I was so happy and didn't want to get caught again with "my pants down" that I ordered two more for spares.
I was NOT happy that they charged me for both gaskets and a $15 shipping fee. I complained and they will credit the excessive S&H charge on my next purchase.
If you can't find the correct gasket I have a extra I can send you.
At least once a year when we winterize the coach there is no water in our Microphor toilet until we pump the pink stuff back in. Or just shut off the water to the toilet and flush until it runs out of water. Get some silicone based plumber's grease and with a generous amount on the end of your finger flush the toilet (use a different finger for that) and apply the grease to the gasket where the flapper valve closes. You may need to flush again to have enough time to do the whole thing. I think it helps.
Maybe we have been lucky but ours is holding water. An alternative would be nice to know about.
I've tried that with silicone grease - no effect. I want to get rid of this toilet.
Thank you for your offer and information Lon. I will check with Mullenany, but prefer a new toilet. The only think I can count on with this toilet is that it will break down again.
I used to have the microphor toilet. Like so many others mine would no longer hold water, so I bought a flapper replacement kit. It included the flapper and all the gaskets needed to "fix" the leak down problem.
By the time I got around to trying verify the problem I discovered that in addition to a potentially leaking flepper I also had a cracked cam in the toilet. Well I said a few choice curse words and ordered a new Dometic toilet, replace the microphor and threw it in the dumpster in Harlingen TX.
No more Microphor and we use way less water with each flush while boon-docking.
I do still have the flapper kit if anyone needs one.
I would be interested in the flapper kit. I will PM you.
I replaced the nylon/plastic cam with a metal one. I know the plastic cam is meant to be a sacrificial part but I find the metal cam much more durable and reliable. If the metal cam NOT breaking causes worse damage by not breaking I will sacrifice the whole toilet.
I must confess that I'm confused about your space issues. If a Microphor fit in your space than I would expect a Thetford Aria II to also fit. Our Aria II is somewhat narrower and slightly shorter (back from the center of the drain hole) than was our Microphor.
I have 2 micropho toilets that parts are for sale!! I had them posted in classifieds for a while but no one needed parts at that time.
If need parts pm me
Chris
The distance from my bolts (mid drain) to the cabinet behind it is 8". The bolt holes on the Aria to the back of the toilet is 11". I would have to cut a hole in the cabinet to bring the toilet back far enough.
This is what I was looking at (is yours different?):
Thetford 19769 Aria Deluxe II Low Profile RV Toilet - Bone White (https://www.rvupgradestore.com/Thetford-Aria-Deluxe-II-Toilet-p/83-1776.htm)
Measurement "A" shows 11"
I just came across this toilet that looks like it might be a fit. Bolt to cabinet distance is 7.6" Does anyone have any experience with it?

We removed our microphor when we started to have real issues with it and replaced with a Dometic 320 ADA. It comes within 1/2 inch of the back cabinet, but works. You may have to go to one of the hardware stores, HD, Lowe's and pick up a offset flange kit to make your clearances work. Easy enough to do and Dometic also sells a plate that fits over the flange and makes a nice install. I will take some photos and place here!
Joe, I looked this one up and the specs show that the rough in clearance is 11" min. What is the distance from you bolt to back of toilet?
I honestly don't understand how the Microphor toilet fit in the space you described--unless you aren't accurately measuring the distance out to the drain hole location. If you can, then please post a picture or two. The Microphor has two sets of mounting bolts, and the rear bolts are closer to the wall than is the drain hole. The Microphor LF-220 document I have shows that the drain hole is to be 12" out from the wall, and that's pretty consistent with my measurement of 12-3/4" out on our 1995 U320.
We have the Thetford Aria Deluxe II toilet you described except that ours is the high-profile model.
I went out and measured the distance from the mounting holes of the Thetford (which are at the center of the drain hole) and they are 12-3/4" away from the cabinet wall. Above/behind the toilet there is a cabinet door that extends out perhaps 3/4" and the Thetford Aria II toilet fits nicely in that location with some room to spare.
Please check again and let us know what you find.
My toilet is the LF-229 model. In the specifications below, you will see that the bolt distance is actually 7.5" from the back of the toilet and has two bolts.

What model Microphor toilet do you have? Our LF-220 had two mounting bolts on each side. Have you actually measured the distance from the wall to the drain hole?
How about this one?
I'll go to the coach and get the info.
Done
That's very interesting! Does your LF-229 have the remote flush assembly?
I believe the original was the lf229. The PO put in the Sealand
Yes. We do not like having an electric toilet; much more complicated than it needs to be. I don't want to spend more time replacing parts on a 21 year old unit.
I was happy to replace our Microphor since it seemed to be overly complicated but we do like having an electric toilet. I hope you can find a suitable replacement that is correct for your unusual circumstances.
Sorry the one I have is electric. It is the same one that came from the factory on my brother's '05 Monaco other than mine has the lever and his has the remote button. At least being Dometic parts would be cheaper if I ever need them.
Yes.
In doing some research I'm finding that a "gravity drop" toilet (basic ball valve without macerator) might be a problem with my layout. Though I prefer the basic lever operated unit, I haven't written off the electric which is why I'm looking at the Tecma. I'm afraid it might be as expensive as the one in the space shuttle.
Re: SeaLand 4400
Tried a few sites for pricing.....no dice
Must be expensive
On site showed 11" to center of discharge
I maybe incorrect
The 229 is a drop toilet. Are you referring to the complicated mechanism under the closet floor? Is it a macerator?
Sven, here are the photos I promised. I installed a Dometic 320 which is also an ADA unit for taller height when you get older. lol
First photo; back of commode to the wall, #2 to the back of the cabinet door and it still opens, #3 the floor plate I was referring too. Gives the install a finish look. #4 another shot of the clearance. Hope this helps!
I too have installed the Dometic 320, with the baseplate mentioned and shown below. I would not install the 320 without the baseplate. It makes installing simple and stable. No regrets on the 320. The experience has been that of a worthwhile upgrade.

This, obviously, would not help my situation, but might help those with the 320.
Sven I to have a 36 foot coach and believe has the same toilet. Positioned diagonally kinda in a corner between shower and sink. So far I have had good service for the month I've owned the coach but that being said the P.O. had two timers for it. I agree with you too many moving parts. I've been following your post hoping you come up with a solution. The 40 foot coaches have a different toilet I think. Mine is very space limited to the side. My neighbors 2002 295 36 has a real nice manual fill and dump toilet. It works very good. I hope you come up with a solution. It's on the back burner for me for now, but I'm 100% sure failure is inevitable. I'll measure mine tomorrow to see if it's the same.
Scott
Scott, the best solution I've seen is in the Beamalarm tech pages ("toilet") which I may go to when I have issues again. It requires a 5" raised platform and a 45 degree flange to accommodate the required clearance. Providing more information for the flange would have been helpful. I did the required repairs and it works for now, but still loses water.
Although a bigger dirtier job, wonder if the pipe below could be replaced to incorporate the needed offset? I'll keep for reference, I'm sure my day will come, but I'll pull the plug on it early. More pressing issues now like reinstall dinette. Long list
