Title: Electronic mice preventers??
Post by: juicesqueezer on August 10, 2020, 09:25:28 pm
Was wondering if anyone has used these before and what the results were?  They also have a strobe light that seems to work in conjunction with the ultra sound! Today, just noticed mouse droppings in our bay area!  UGH!

Never had any luck with those devices, tried them a couple of times, once in a mobile home and once in a garage. Seem to have the best luck with Fresh Cab and Peppermint oil.  We use tin foil to make little cups to hold cotton balls sprayed with peppermint oil.

Had a run with mice about 7 or 8 years ago. Caught em all in about 45 minutes with the good ole slam down on their head mouse traps. Went to try to find out where they came in and the only place I could narrow it down to was the exhaust port for the aquahot. Put stainless steel wool around the port and no mice since. Have also used the peppermint extract.

We have some of these (no nightlight though).

Amazon.com: Bell + Howell Ultrasonic Pest Repeller with AC Outlet and Night... (https://www.amazon.com/Bell-Howell-Ultrasonic-Repeller-Outlet/dp/B0168899J0/ref=sr_1_60?crid=1EJF7PZOXXHK0&dchild=1&keywords=mouse+deterrent+plug+in&qid=1597149740&s=lawn-garden&sprefix=Mouse+de%2Clawngarden%2C249&sr=1-60)

5 for $38 now.  They seem to work, One in the main bay And one each side of the wet bay.  No mice.  And the peppermint Mouse Magic bags all over if the coach is stored for a while in the late fall/ early winter.

Make sure your cord/hose opening gets sealed up. Easiest place for them to get in.

I keep poison out and hidden in shop.. No poop in the coach.. The mice rob my cheese to often with traditional traps.. Lynn is a better trapper than me. I keep poison out in my hay/tractor barn and they eat 2 blocks in 2 days.. Don't guess I will ever get all them, to many acres of pasture behind the barn I suppose.

At least you are keeping the population down. I keep some of the green blocks in containers in my shop in case the cat population doesn't do its job. I fix them so cats, opossums and raccoons can't get to them. So far the blocks disintegrate over time without being eaten.

I use the green blocks as well. Field mice must love it, has to be helping.

I tried the Irish Spring soap bars cut into pieces and scattered around-- then I watched a u-tube where the fellow put out Irish spring and the mice ate part of it and a rat tried to carry the bar off--go figure.
Chester the cat was keeping shop thinned out until DW decided to feed him-  Now I call him "Chester the socialist cat" he meets us at door and meows until we give him food

I too tried the Irish Spring soap and thought it was working , as I had seen no mouse droppings for over a year, but now, in just a few days, they are in there!  Bought the peppermint stuff today and did the cotton ball thing, 2 mouse traps and a single one with the green cheese?  Not sure if this will work or not, but we may have the little chipmunks, as they are all over Yellowstone!  UGH!
Will investigate in the morning to see what the kill ratio is!  lol  The mice love peanut butter and that is on the 2 traps I set.  Will see what happens!  I'm on a mission to succeed!

I use peppermint oil also.
Especially in the wet bay due to access door for shore power.
Use milk caps as tray to put in .

I had one trap baited with peanut butter. Usually works fine but recently it's been licked clean for several mornings. Baffled.  Finnally saw at night the ants were cleaning it spotless.  Thought I was going crazy

We had a problem in our attic about 20 years ago.  I tried traps that went empty and a pest control guy told me that he would not be able to help as long as we had the wood shake (since replaced) roof.  Out of desperation, I bought the electronic emitters that Costco was selling and that seemed to work (no more scratching sound from ceiling).  These are also supposed to be species specific.
If anyone knows someone with pet mice (mouse), you might ask them to help with a test using one of these devises.  If they start climbing the walls, you will know.
