Post by: Travelin' Man (RIP) on August 13, 2020, 12:50:30 pm
Does anyone have a part number for the AC selector switch in a '03 FT?

Thanks

That is some good sleuthing.  How did you find it?

Being used in a Foretravel, I figured it was probably sourced from a '03 model Saturn Ion, or some similarly obscure and defunct brand/model.

I thought it was Fomoco but once I removed it,
lo and behold there was a part number.

When I started this thread I thought the selector switch was gonzo because there was back-feeding at two different detents.  I cleaned it, bench tested it GOOD and reinstalled it.  If it goes south I'll replace it easily for $45.00.

What I did find was that one of the vacuum solenoids was not closing at the vent and not allowing a vacuum to be produced.

The OEM solenoid is no longer being made or available anywhere but the links below are to a replacement that will work for you with only minor modification for mounting.  I have two brand new ones in a parts bin in my shop and both tested perfect when temporarily hooked up.  I think the key is the vent that is pictured between the two blade terminals on the solenoid.

Also, I have to say that my original Eaton solenoid was missing the filter media at the end of the vent.  I thought maybe something got inside and wouldn't allow the vent to close so i blew it out with air, put new filter media in the vent and reinstalled it.  It too now works perfectly.  If it fails later I should only have to remove the bottom of the dash and not the entire glove compartment, because it's the solenoid on the end (#7) and easily accessible.

Here are a couple of links to a replacement for the OEM solenoid. NAPA may have them.
