Title: Check your HWH Box For Rats
Post by: Pierce & Gaylie Stewart on August 22, 2020, 04:08:02 pm
Wondered why our HWH would sometime work fine, other times not so fine. Photo of what was inside. You can't see what was on the bottom and don't want to. Lots of fuses inside too but toward the top of the box. I'm putting a fine ware screen in place so nothing can get inside. I've included the schematic for it.

Perhaps now it won't act like a slow motion car show vehicle with hydraulics.  :D

Pierce,

Where is your box located?  Mine is in the forward storage bay, and is completely enclosed with no rat-sized openings.  I have had rats get into that storage bay by climbing through the central utility tray from the propane/fuel tank compartment.

If there is a hole, they will come.

Now you have to wonder which piece of furniture is missing all the stuffing.

I cleaned out a friends air cooled Onan generator that looked like that.  So much "nest" that the governor mechanism couldn't move.

Ours is also in the front of the main storage compartment (36 feet). It looks closed but on the top, there is a vent slot the length of the box about 1/2" wide or maybe a tiny bit more. Check yours with a mirror.

I thought my pillow was getting less and less stuffing in it.  :)

I've heard that whatever a rat or mouse head can fit through, the body will follow.
