Title: Engine Door Latch
Post by: pthurman48 on August 28, 2020, 10:50:49 pm
On the engine compartment of my 95 U-240 I have two(2) latches to hold it closed.  Most of the 90s and up have these latches.  Has any found a source for them.  Any part numbers other than FT numbers?  Both of mine are shot, can not repair.

Pat,

I don't think they are available anymore. There is a post on how to repair the latch, but my search didn't find it. Someone will maybe remember who posted it.

The post was about drilling out the rivets and repairing or replacing the spring and re-assembling.

#465  The problem which has been eliminated is the "what did you do to your coach today" keeps you from finding something in a search unless you waste a lot of time finding it.

I can't find the more detailed post, but Travelin' Man would know.

Thanks for the responses,
The pictures I posted is from older post/threads not mine.  I have only one latch, the other has been missing since I owned the MH.  The latch I have is worn out.  The lever that turns the shaft by pushing on a flat spot on the edge is just worn out.  My latch still has all the parts including the springs.  My bonnet is hinged like all the bay doors, I don't know if it will stay closed with no latches.  I must have a replacement option or some kind of DIY.

Ideas?

You need to post an actual picture of what you have, then some useful information can show up.

That is the point I only have one(1) latch.  It is the same as in the two(2) pictures.  My mounting of the latch is different, but still the same latch.  This is some pictures.

If you have all the pieces, any wear can be corrected by welding, then re-grinding to the original shape.

You could try Visone or some of the other RV wrecking yards as the last option.

Here was my solution. Still working well after 3 years.
