Title: Gaggenau Cook Top Problem
Post by: Farrarkc on August 30, 2020, 02:30:59 pm
Although I have never cooked on this unit, I have had it lit before but now I am having an issue.

What I know:

1) I have LP (Frig is running on gas)
2) It has worked before.

What is going on:

NOTHING, no ignitor clicking no smell and no flame.

Any suggestions?

The electricity is off on it. No power, no gas or spark.

To verify, the stove will not lite on 12v system?  Must have shore power or generator running?

Well, I have power elsewhere but no spark or gas at the stove.  Any ideas why?

I have two toggle switches above the sink that I do not know what they are for. The one nearest to the microwave makes a click sound when switched then with a second delay I hear another click. Reminds of a GFCI outlet popping.

Any help or ideas are appreciated!  Good news is I have my frig running on gas! Small victory!

I am not at my coach right now so I cannot verify, but as I remember the igniter on my unit works off 120 volt AC.  When I am dry camping and the inverter is off I get no spark and therefore no gas flow.

Richard's experience is the same as mine (with a 2 burner Gaggenau).  If I don't have 110V power turned on (shore or generator or inverter) then the burner IGNITOR will not function.

I can, however, still use the burner by turning on the gas and lighting it with a match.  The gas flow valve to the burner (after the flame is lit) must be controlled by a safety thermocouple that is powered by 12 volt.  If the flame goes out, the gas flow to the burner is cut off.

Same here. No 120V no cook unless one has a long BBQ lighter on hand to light the old fashioned way.

The switch is tied to a relay. The relay is most likely what you here clicking the 2nd time.  The relay is most likely hid in the floor space in the cabinet over the microwave.  It should work a light somewhere that you may not have working.

The two switches over our sink activate the two puck lights above the sink and the middle set of Florescent lights.

Curious comments.  My Gaggenau does not have any d/c connection, only needs a/c power to light with piezo igniter and zero electrical power to light with a stick lighter.  When dry camping, turn and push down knob, light burner, hold knob down for a dozen seconds or so and release.

Mine might not either. Never been without the inverter since I bought the coach and burners have always lit.

I was incorrect when I said in my earlier post that the gas valve safety thermocouple ran off 12 volt.  I was advised via PM by another member that a thermocouple can generate enough voltage to hold a gas valve open, independent of any power source (other than heat from the burner flame).  In that case, no 12 volt input at the cooktop would be required.

This is in fact how they work.  A reasonably fail proof safety system to shut off gas flow if there is no flame.

With inverter off and on battery power only my ignitors for stove do not click

The Gaggenau is a household unit and the igniters operate on 120 VAC only.  There will be a breaker in the 120 VAC breaker box for it.

Gaggenau is part of Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau
