Title: Replacing ceiling puck lights
Post by: djpauls on September 04, 2020, 02:54:37 pm
Hi All,

Seems like an easy task but I am having difficulty removing the small puck lights from the ceiling.  In particular I am working on the lights that are in the mirrored ceiling panels.  Any special tool or related tips?

Thanks for your help!!

The ones in my coach have a ring that you turn counter clockwise then pull down. Yours is much newer so maybe useless info.

I replaced all my puck lights and started changing out the fluorescent lights with LEDs.  I was less than happy with brightness and how it affected the ambiance and found that a single strip  of LED was more than enough for the fluorescent tubes. After replacing several of the tubes, it occurred to me that I didn't need to replace every single light.  The only reason for the LEDs was for dry camping, in which case we only use lights that were necessary.  The halogen and fluorescents are not an issue when plugged in at a campground.  I would suggest replacing only those you need for dry camping.
In the bathroom we have two overhead Thin LItes on separate switches.  I have one LED, but the other I didn't change which is easier on the eyes when turning them on first thing in the morning.

Thanks for the responses.  I figured it out myself.  I found a plastic tool in my toolbox that was important enough for me to keep but I had no idea what it was used for.  The plastic was stout enough that I could use it to get underneath the lip of the puck light and pry it from the mirrored ceiling without cracking the mirror.  The tool now has a purpose.
