Title: Generator Overheating
Post by: Gary Bouland (RIP) on September 11, 2020, 04:10:58 pm
Trying to help new owner out.  Generator ran fine but then shut down and steam from Overflow bottle indicated overheat. Could not verify that fan in compartment below driver was in fact operating. Strongly suspect and  advice from other owner is that circuit breaker on panel on front of generator is faulty.  I am not familiar with this type generator where fan is 110VAC on side.
Can someone post a photo of the circuit breaker in question so Dave can point it out to a tech.
This is a 2001 U320 with the BOXED generator located in front of coach. I feel stupid that I am not better able to diagnose the problem but its not familiar to me. Dave is on road to home with new purchase but no AC.
Thanks in advance

He said his insolation was falling so told him to check radiator for blockage.

His radiator is in the box under the driver's seat no insulation problem there.

Could it have plugged up his air intake ?

No sign of insulation plugging intake to radiator. As I was leaving I realized that We had NOT HAD high volume air blowing out of bottom of compartment under driver.  That indicates to me that the fan is not working.

Insulation on front compartment door was deteriorated so we simply pulled it off, It will have to be replaced anyway.  Insulation on access door to genny engine is crumbling but it was intact enough that I don't think it was creating a problem.

If the radiator fan is not running it could also be the start capacitor failing on the fan motor.  It is hidden on the back of the fan housing.

Found the problem. Air lock in cooling system topped off and bled ok for now. Will pressure test and go over system when home.
