Post by: Cape Bretoner on October 01, 2020, 08:45:52 pm
My first day removing radiator not as bad of a job so far removed side panel fuel cooler  Air cooler and oil cooler rad is in bad shape  just took my time draining antifreeze hydraulic oil taking off one piece at a time think I'll unhook hydraulic hose and pull hydraulic pumps out with rad looks like the best way had a        radiator shop price me $16000. To do the job and said it would take them 2 weeks I'm keep track of the time That it takes me and sending the rad  to a different shop I Hope I can do it under half.

Rick I replied my radiator and CAC oct-jan of 2018-2019 the total cost from Atlas radiator ( people that built the original for Foretravel) was around  $4,000.00.  Be sure to pressure up the CAC to make sure it isn't leaking.  I didn't check mine until I was ready to put radiator back in and when I found leaks (couldn't patch) it was 8 weeks lead time to get new CAC.
The difference in price for re-core and new radiator was around  $500.00 so I opted for new radiator

If you gave that radiator another 2-3 years, it might look as bad as mine did.  Congratulations on taking this on, it will save you a bundle.  You also listed everything I had to do on my coach - glad to have them done.

I had a bad CAC in my Dynasty and had it record and save more than half. I had the hydraulic cooler done too.

Bunch of years ago I repaired my CAC as there were 4 good sized holes in it from a flopping fuel cooler. Took it out and fixed it with Devcon filler. Pressure tested to 45 lbs and it has been good since. I was told by all it could not be repaired, even pro,s in the business. Glad I did it my way, as  Sinatra would say.

Chris,
That is the cost now. $3,840 for both. I should have listed separate prices. Just copied what they sent me.

more pictures of the job I was thinking of changing all the hydraulic lines but that looks like a big job And  expensive  one  How long are hydraulic lines good for I had one blow last month

Rick, I got on the gates website and got the correct radiator hose measurements and part numbers then went online (eBay/Amazon) and ordered all the hoses and some new compression clamps for the ones I thought needed replacing( I ordered 2  each because I like to have a spare--I've had new radiator hoses spring a leak)
The hydraulic hoses are tough answer I've had nearly new ones burst and used old Ines with no rubber covering only steel braid  showing and they lasted several years--But if they are really stiff(hardly no flex and you have been moving them very much I might look at changing them.  I changed several hoses on a backhoe this summer although bigger (1") and they were all about 3 feet long
it seemed the magic number for price was $100 to $125 so custom hoses aren't cheap
good luck and keep us posted on your decision
Chris

Sometimes you have to figure the labor it would take to change a hose after all is assembled. I would change any hard to change hoses that are now exposed. But that is me, do what you feel necessary.

I was quoted $1,100 to make up all the hydraulic hoses. The most expensive one is of course that real long one that runs from the hydraulic tank and across the back of the rig. Your work is proceeding nicely. I admire your decision to take this job on.

Rick the radiator hoses I got were from Amazon gates 23550 2 ea for top and bottom of radiator
and for the Trans oil cooler I got 1ea.  21400 for end facing rear of coach and 1 ea. 21472 -- this hose has a 90 degree turn on each end and I had to cut the 90 off the small end  on mine because the pipe it went on already had the 90 built in so I made the hose straight on small end.  I checked amazon and they still have them in stock.

thanks the hose you mentioned is the one that blew out a month ago on the road  cost me $325.00 for the hose it went from the tank  to the oil cooler plus 4 gals of oil And about an hr labour and I helped out that why I'm asking.  I'm  not comfortable on the side of the interstate trying to change A hose  I was thinking of just carrying hydraulic unions and fittings and Couple of feet of hydraulic hose to make one up if I blow one but my emergency toolbox is getting bigger and bigger all the time laugh out loud

Rick,

Some of  your pictures show a good luck at the fiberglass after you remove the side panel. What is on the back of the fiberglass that the screws are being held by?

Thanks,

Trent

. here are some pictures      on the left side of the radiator panel it is screwed true  the panel into a aluminum strip behind the Corner panel  And on the top and right hand side you screw in to a square tubing part of the frame in the last picture is the top  moulding and the two pieces of the left-hand side    the outside moulding  and the aluminum piece that goes on back side of the panels to screw in too  the piece of aluminum that they use is the same as the the aluminum trim they use on the side of the motorhome
