While in South Dakota the DW heard a air hissing noise coming from the step area under the door step. I pulled the cover off and found what appeared to be a bicycle inter tube patch stuck to one of the 2 cylinders that push the step out with 2 radiator hose clamps around it.. the air was coming from under the patch.. Pulled the patch back a bit and found a clean cut in the cylinder. Looks like someone in the last 17 years was cutting some metal near the cylinder and cut a little to far.. wouldn't have been my choice for fixing it.....
2 new cylinders went on today....

Guessing tightening the hose clamps more didn't fix it..... just kidding.
Now you know it's done right.
We did put a new piece of rubber over it and tightened the clamps to get me home..... now it is fixed right!

Instead of a tube patch, I woulda used Shoe Goo.
Glad that piece of shrink wrap got you home Keith! At least now you know you should be good for a long while with your repair done right.
A little shoe goo under the inner tube would have gone another 50k miles
Duct tape AND Shoe Goo ... last forever.
