Title: Changed engine oil and filter today
Post by: dans96u295ft on October 24, 2020, 09:37:22 pm
Ok. Have so many opinions on this. I used Valvoline Premium Blue 15-40w, 8600ES with a Wix extended guard filter. My buddy wonders if this newer oil is good for my old 1996 8.3 Cummins. Why wouldn't it be? and he says the dual micron Fleetguard oil filter is way better?
What do you all think. Am I ok?

Your fine, new oil formulations include the old ratings. No comment about filters, I use Baldwin, or fleet guard. I change oil once a year 5-9 thousand miles.

Yes, per Cummins with the new designation diesel oil recommendation is CK4 15-40.

NOT FA4 which is for newer engines.

Think it's blended by Warren Distribution, Inc. in Nebraska. Not a bad thing.

Think the Fleetguard is a better filter and a good synthetic is better oil, many of us out there use Amsoil.

I'll go Fleetguard next year. I do believe they are the best after researching them. I don't drive in the winter and it's stored in an insulated shop so I'll stay with conventional diesel oil. Thanks.
