Title: Re:BOSE System Renew
Post by: muskyman475 on November 03, 2020, 07:08:49 am
FYI - I did this with my old BOSE 20 system in the coach. The 6 disc CD changer was jammed and counsel lights not functioning. I contacted this guy and he sent me a shipping label via email for sending my unit to him. I sent it out to him and within a week I already received the unit back.

Because the units are 20+ years old there are not parts available for repair. I always thought system had great sound and I wasn't looking forward to rewiring a new setup. This guy removes the old CD  disc guts and installs a bluetooth unit inside the chassis. He also redoes all the capacitors etc for the digital display.

When completed & returned you plug and play back into existing wiring, pair with your phone, tablet, smart TV or computer and connect thru bluetooth and your system is up and running using the same original remotes and wiring. I actually use my sirius satellite radio through my phone app and avoided having to install another satellite radio & subscription for the coach. I stream movies and listen to DVDs utilizing the BOSE speakers/surround sound. Total cost was $265.00.

Great news. Just want to add, if the system goes dead (has no output sound), there is a fuse in the subwoofer under the sofa. I can't clearly remember how to access  the fuse that blows out, but it's easy. Have changed several.

There are some things you slide around and pop open, that gives you access to the fuse. The blown fuse is caused by power surges.

You may call Bose for info on how to get to the fuse.

I have changed that fuse several times.
I eventually re-wired it so its on the outside of the sub-woofer.

Nice options to have it rebuilt.  But since mine is 20 years old not sure I want to put money into a unit that old even though it still plays well.  I only use it for TV sound.  The display is not working and the remote works intermittently.
Can anyone recommend a replacement that will work with the Bose speakers and sub?  Like I said I'm only wanting to use it for the TV.

I believe the Bose system is proprietary.

Forest did you ever figure out a solve for this? I don't have the head unit at all and am basically in the same boat.

I had mine rebuilt. I think they have some rebuilt units for sale. I'll look up the place when I get home today.

I see they have some at boserenew.com. I'm hoping someone here can confirm it's the Bose Lifestyle 20, 25, or 30 model that I need for my 2001.

Putting out the bat signal for Roger...

Mine was a Bose 20 on my 1999 U320.  It was Bose Renew that refurbed mine.  A Mr. Sharpless Jones, unusual first name.

The previous owner had removed my Bose system so I put in a Sony surround receiver which is the only one we could fine that
would fit up beside the TV which works really well. I didn't have the Bose Speakers but if I did I would have used them. The Bose
which I still have under the bed work well.

Mine is a Bose Lifestyle 20.  I sent it in to Sharpless Jones to convert it to a Bluetooth capable device and to fix the dim lights. I hesitated to do it since we have an Echo Studio speaker but went ahead.  Connects to the TV, phones, ipads with no problem.  Sometimes the TV is reluctant but finally will connect.

The Bose is on a switched outlet so that is we are not connected to a landline or using the inverter we can shut it off. It uses a fair amount of power to be on.

The Echo Studio cost less than the conversion and has great sound and Alexa if you want to use it.

Thanks for confirming Roger. I have all the original speakers still so I'd like to take advantage of those and I believe the only way to do that is with another Bose Lifestyle, no?

When I bought my coach my Bose had been modified by a previous owner. It was a complicated system in my opinion and while I did like the way that little speaker cubes looked I didn't necessarily like the way they sounded. After 20 years speakers dry out and the foam gets brittle. So what I did was to replace the head unit with a pioneer flip up unit I put in mb quart speakers and the front and just in front of the kitchen and dining table these were mid-range with separate tweeters all four. I put in a pioneer amp which I think was a thousand Watts but I can't remember for sure and a pioneer 10-in sub I believe it was. And that will play some really nice tunes and I can do it through Bluetooth. So I can play Spotify through my phone onto the head unit. It also will play DVDs on the screen otherwise I don't use it for that I have a side camera that I use and when I'm driving I have both the backup camera and the side camera on. For my 55 in 4K television I installed a Sony Bluetooth receiver and had a 5.1 system with MK speakers for the fronts, a paradigm center channel above next to the receiver, and some small bookshelf speakers that I bought on Amazon that sound really good for the rear surrounds. I have a 12-in paradigm subwoofer that is huge and while it is an awesome subwoofer it's ridiculous size for this coach so I gave it to Antonio, my painter here in Mexico as a tip. It's probably still worth $500 and new was probably 1500 us. I don't find I need a subwoofer on the television but if I do I'll get a much smaller one by the same manufacturer of my surround speakers.
And then everything that had to do with the bose I ripped out.
The problem with bose, and I had that in my Infinity q45 as well, is that it's a proprietary system and doesn't play nice with others.
I really like the system I have now I probably could have used my head unit to do the whole thing but then the speakers wouldn't have sounded right watching movies since my TV is opposite to jackknife sofa and not in the front. It wouldn't work for everybody but it works for me.

I was able to by a refurbed remote and control unit form this guy.  Fast turnaround and he offers a credit for returning the broken stuff.  There is a little wiggle room to negotiate on the price.

findnething on eBay (https://www.ebay.com/usr/findnething?_trksid=p2047675.l2559)

Added a 15$ Bluetooth interface unit that I use in the auxiliary port to play music from my PC and phone and I have my old IPOD plugged into the tape deck inputs.  Sounds great even after all these years.
