Title: Air fitting
Post by: oldmattb on November 03, 2020, 04:55:00 pm
The new to us 1998 U-320 has an air fitting in the back, to the left of the hitch receiver.  Is this an inlet or outlet?  For the full air system, for the suspension, for emergency brake release?

Or is this fitting for intermittent brake pressure for a towd?

Is there another fitting on the coach?

It sounds like the fitting for your braking system. Most likely an Airforce One.

Or an M&G, which have been very popular with the Foretravel crowd since they're based in Texas as well.

Coach air connector option (helpful for adding air to tires) is sometimes in the LP bay.

I just found the air outlet in the LP bay!  Is this just for airing up tires and stuff, or is it also an inlet for airing up suspension, releasing parking brake, etc?

The one in the LP bay is for Airing up the tires and stuff, pretty much standard on most
The one on back is for a brake for the toad. If there is more hardware in the engine compartment then probably air force one if just an airline from a brake line probably m&g, that's what I have.

I have 2 at the rear of my coach one is for air force one, which is a female quick couple and I have a male quick coupler for filling up
the air tanks.

My fitting is mounted on the metal crossmember, just to the left of the receiver.  Where is your male coupler?

Or it could be for a trailer with air brakes.

My m&g hookup on the coach is an air tubing T'ed into the air line going to the tag brake straight to the coupling on the back

An AF1 setup typically has a ping tank, IIRC.  So if one traces the line from the hitch air fitting, you should be able to tell if it's M&G (no tank) or AF1 (yes tank).

ETA very new coaches with Spartan's "Smart Tow" system will also have a ping tank.

I would have to go out and see exactly where I put them. The air force one is near the left of the hitch and the air intake one
is just before the air drier.

On mine the air going to the rear fitting is hooked to the brake air delivery system and is proportional to the amount of braking I am doing. If a little on the brakes the air delivered to the rear fitting is small. If I am on the brakes hard the pressure delivered is way up. If you are not braking there will be no air at that fitting. I am using the Roadmaster system.
