Title: Puzzling Aquahot control issue, Rudy rescued me. Where to buy a new switch?
Post by: kepeters on November 08, 2020, 11:20:32 am
Being a newbie with just over two month membership, this is the second time I should donate to the Forum's orphan and widows fund in gratitude.
The first time was when I could not retract my slides.

After coming home a week ago from a short trip where the Aquahot diesel burner worked fine, I hooked up the coach to my 50 amp supply and set the thermostat to 50 deg F on "furnace" to keep some heat in the coach. At that time, both green lights in the triple switch on the kitchen counter (diesel, 110 V) were on.

Several days later I looked at the coach and both green lights were off.

So, I concluded, that  I had either lost the 110 V supply or the 12 V supply to the Aquahot.

I then checked every fuse I could measure on both voltage levels, and they all checked out ok.

The Aquahot system was making some noise, and I thought the 12 V supply was working (although the green light in the kitchen was still off)

So I went down to the Auquahot panel and and was going to measure the 12 V supply again. When I touched the 12 V fat incoming cable with one probe of my meter, the Aquahot diesel system suddenly came on, but shut down after some minutes.

Went to the kitchen, and both green lights were now on.

Time to call Rudy:

His first advice, tighten the incoming 12 V terminal, perhaps it is loose. I did that, but the diesel burner did not come on.
Then he told me to measure which of the 4 connectors from right to left in the attached picture of the Aquahot panel  do have voltage.

No 1, 2 and 4 showed voltage, but no 3 ( ..from diesel burner control switch.. ) did not.

He then concluded that one can have power to the indicator lights on ( No 1 and 2), but no electricity through the switch  to the Aquahot.  I think this is a strange wiring set up

He told me to jumper 3 and 4 and the burner will come on.

It sure did.

Then I took the triple switch out and  out jumperd  the connections to the diesel swich. (see photo)

The diesel furnace came on and is now working.

Obviously, the diesel switch is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Where can I order a new one and receive it quickly ?, Rudy said to ask the Forum.

Which I hereby do.

Regards

Klaus

FOT has rocker switches and also Mouser is a great source, for less money.

FOT carries them.  In the meantime, find a switch you rarely or never use, and swap it out.
