Title: LED dash lights
Post by: gracerace on November 21, 2020, 09:16:10 pm
So we are probably behind everyone else. Changed the dash bulbs to LED's to match the smart wheel lights, love it. Woke those old dim yellow gauges up.

Should have done it years ago. I bought a package of 10, not realizing the big gauges take 2, so one short, hence the dark side of speedo.

Just ordered 20 more, changing everything we own!
Cheap as chips at $7.99 delivered for 10.

Steering wheel not as bright as the pictures shows it.

That looks nice. Was it hard to do Smart Wheel bulbs?

I just finished converting my headlight bulbs. Makes a big difference.

I followed in Chris's footsteps and picked up 20 of the LED dash bulbs. Big improvement: Two comments:
1. Several of those old bulbs were tough to get. I ended up putting on a rubber glove to get some purchase with my fingers.
2. The failure rate of these things is high. I had four defective bulbs of 14. Like Chris says, they are so cheap, it's no big deal.

If you put them in, and they don't work, just take it out, turn it around in the socket. They only work in one direction like all other LED bulbs, but unlike standard bulbs.

I have used ton's of these bulbs, never had a dude. Some been working years.

That's something I didn't know. Thanks. Here's how it went on the four I indicated as failing. I put them in and they didn't work. When I tried to pull them out, the base separated from the bulb. Anyhow, they'll likely outlast me so I'll let the next guy use the extras!

Try some dielectric grease on them, may come out easier.

I had a hard time pulling the old ones too, so I used a small screwdriver to get them out of the socket. I also pulled the whole plug out of the gauge with socket attached.

When I went to put the LED ones in, I just put them in a little with the lights on,to make sure they were in the correct configuration.
