What's the best driver-side mirror positioning to reduce wind noise? And what are the pros and cons of viewing through the windshield vs. viewing through the side window?

I read once about side mirrors that track eye movement, and deploy instantly when the driver looks.
Would that be cool, or would we drive off the road while playing with it?
Would it be legal to remove the mirrors and have cameras?
For me--I wish our mirror on the passenger side was positioned so I could see it thru the windshield. Every time (and it always seem to be at the WRONG TIME) the DW leans forward she blocks my view down the side of the coach.

The best position for the driver's outside mirror (forward or to the side) depends you YOUR DRIVING POSITION.
You want it positioned for best viewing from where you normally sit/have the seat.
There is no one answer. Try both and decide for yourself based on your best view.
And, from a wind noise standpoint, not sure it isn't a toss up. Much of that depends on the angle of the wind.
My coach is parked/stored facing front south and pushing mirror out some reduced glare coming thru windshield against side glass looking at mirror . Was almost impossible to see behind and to the left side of the coach. Driveway I back up is 300 feet long. Pushing mirror out help. Also a piece of cardboard in the front windshield stops it 100%. Not related to noise but equally important in mirror position IMO

After having bay doors open at unexpected times while driving I now use my mirrors not only to see behind me but also to keep an eye on the bay doors. I use the bottom con vex mirrors to do that as far as positioning I keep the driver's side mirror so I can see through the side window and the passenger side mirror so I can see through the windshield far right on passenger side. That's kind of what works for me right now although I do play with it sometimes to get a better angle. I'm not totally happy with it the way it is now but it's a work in progress.
Nothing more frightening than looking down and seeing your bay door open not knowing how long it's been open or what's falling out.Pulling off the side of the road to close them is not always a good option either. I've learned to close the bay doors better but I still have one that's a little finicky. After speaking with Rance at Xtreme I have a better understanding of the doors and how they work. I have new gaskets to replace the bottom edges and I need to adjust the tension on some of the wires that open and close the latches.
as far as wind noise I don't really notice much from the mirrors but I do get that wind noise from the zippy awning over the driver's side window and there's a recent thread on that .
