Title: No data input to Silver Leaf
Post by: Stontz’s on December 05, 2020, 11:48:02 am
The original owner of my 2004 U320/4220 had a Silver Leaf digital system installed prepurchase. I love it. It displays data from every component. However, I suddenly lost ALL data. I cannot tell engine rpm, air pressure, black/grey/ fresh water %; nor do I get video from the rear or sides. I noticed a frayed ribbon cable that connects the VMS 616 with the center dash display module. I ordered a new one, but after installing it, I still have no data input. I have power going to the modules, but am lacking data input. I must have a loose connection/plug somewhere.  Anyone have a suggestion of where to look? Isn't there a connection underneath somewhere?

Are you sure the display is functional?  Try a different display or direct input to the current one from another source.

I haven't seen a similar system talked about here on the forum.  Most of ours are after market add-ons and yours appears to be OEM.

If you are a motorcade member, you might try calling FOT for some help.

Call Art Renda at Silverleaf. (888) 741-0259.  He may be able to help.
These are likely obsolete and have several interface connections for all of the data that is not on the engine/transmission data bus.

I am a Motorcade owner and have a call into Foretravel. Still waiting for a call from Ronnie.
I also spent a lot of time with Art at Silver Leaf on the phone. The digital display works, but there is no data input coming to it. Art suggested I find out where on the coach there could be other connections that could possibly be loose. It seems it's probably just a loose connection.  I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting all the related cables in/under the dash, but without success. I'm looking for someone who can point me to where that "elusive' connection might be.

John, I have no idea where this connects to the data bus but in VMSpc applications the JIB connects to the round data port, likely forward on the side wall of the drivers side foot well.  Newer cables have a turn to lock ring to secure the cable, older ones just use friction to hold it in place.  This is a nine pin plug but only six wires are used.  If it is telling you tanks levels then there is an interface box near the water distribution manifold.  If service tank air pressure then there is probably another box wired to tank transducers.

This is not a common install so maybe not much help here.  I know of another (2003) who has issues and the solution was to send the dash part to Silverleaf or drive to Oregon. Not much help at FT.

Could you have a worn plug maybe one of the connectors in the plug is worn out. The best way to check that is with a tip cleaner.

The Silverleaf Dash in my coach has a multi-pin cannon plug zip tied to the panel below the steering wheel down by your left knee.  One of the zip ties broke allowing a slight disconnect and gave me the same symptoms you are experiencing.  JWID.  Woody.

Woody, this is what I have down by my left knee:
I have a brake controller(black plastic) just above my left knee and an empty round connecter mounted to the side(nothing in the vicinity to plug into that).
I don't see anything else to try.

I do remember while driving over bumps, the dashboard would go blank and then come on again. Finally, it just went blank.

This is a VERY import clue.  It pretty much confirms your hunch about a loose connection.
Have you tried this?
One person monitors the display (ignition on) while another plays around with the wiring by gently pulling up or pushing down on wiring bundles (mimicking a bump).  Reach as much as the wiring as you can from above and below.

Now I'm intrigued as to what this cannon plug is for.  Here's what's plugged into mine...routes up to the Silverleaf box behind the dash.  Guessing now that it ties into a cannon plug in the engine harness that the Pressure Pro receiver module plugs into???  Anyone?

The round 9 pin plug in the 2001 is the data port at the end of the engine/transmission data bus.  Driver's foot well, left side wall towards the front.  Not all years are the same.  It is just in front of the VMSpc data interface box (JIB).  Black cables are friction fit, newer green cables have a locking turn ring.
