Title: Window replacement
Post by: dkeener on December 17, 2020, 08:14:12 am
I had the side passenger slider window shot out of my 2003 U270 recently while it was parked in the barn. (Too many people with nothing to do but stay at home and do stupid stuff!) According to FOT, Creation the maker of the windows on my coach, are out of business. Nothing is wrong with the window frames just the glass is shattered but apparently these come as an integrated unit. Has anyone ever been able to replace the individual glass panels? I see some owners have referenced Parkin-acc or Motion Windows (Peninsula) which both appear to make RV replacement windows. It doesn't make sense that you would have to get the whole unit (frame and glass) when only the glass is broken. The unit is made up of the individual parts that then had to be put together, so why can't I get just the glass for the individual parts for the unit and put it back in. Has anyone had any experience with doing just this? I know the glass has to be tempered so not all glass companies can make the panes but we are close to Houston and surely someone can cut tempered glass around here.

I agree with you.  Replacing the flat glass in a side window unit should not be that tough.  You just need to do a search online and by phone to find the person/shop with the expertise.  Living near a big metropolitan area should make the search easier, I would think.

A quick Google search turned up some prospects:

Glass has to be  special ordered via a glass shop like you said, they can't cut them. Window can come out, and be taken apart to replace the glass. I have seen a few times they could replace the glass in the coach.

Any good auto glass shop can do it. Our Grizzly Glass in Washington/Idaho does them

I had my drivers side bedroom window replaced in entirety at Foretravel a couple years ago. It was shattered from what looked like a rock. They quoted my $800, but it ran around $900-$1,000 installed with tax.

The  small glass shop I ended up going to did offer to get replacement glass cut and tempered. It was no big deal for them and they were a hole in the wall shop. Stop looking for Motorhome parts and you will find a legal tempered glass installer that can build you a DOT legal replacement glass. Biggest problem was the thinner inner seal in the window, but it's available. It was a big deal till it was a non issue.

My FT is my third diesel pusher that the previous owner installed Motion windows.  All have been exceptional!  My favorite had their best glass, very solar reflective.

They will sell you one window, or do the entire rv.  They are on the west coast in the state of Washington.

Love our Motion windows. Especially the lift up pass window. $5k installed for all, paid by previous owner. Dark glass.

Not knowing where U are leaves it up in the air, as to where to go.
Previous POS, we had excellent glass work, knowledgeable, reasonable, at .

RV Fog,  Searcy  [sp?]  Arkansas
Clean shop, 50 amp, dump, pleasant people.  Nice city.

From there, over to Benton, Ark.  the Walton's, [walmart] have a outstanding art museum.

Then to Little Rock,  a city  RV park on the river, walk across the bridge,  The Bill Clinton "library" they were going to display the Cigar & Dress  "next week".
Also a "diesel" submarine .  Few other boat things.  Neat city.

Good Luck,
