Title: Alexa in the motor home
Post by: 2002u32042 on December 18, 2020, 06:42:09 pm
Has anyone attempted to add Alexa to the push button lighting system in a 2002 U320?

Roger (Roger & Susan in Home2), one of our Forum electronics experts, has some experience with Alexa controlled lighting.  He might have some information that would be of interest to you.  If he doesn't see this and drop in, you can PM him to ask questions.  See threads below:

Yes Alexa. I don't have it in my house but want it in the motor home.

There are lots of ways to interface Alexa enabled devices.  maybe with the lighting controls in your coach, I don't know.  We have Alexa enabled 12v LED lighting controllers (on/off/dimming), a camera, 120v lamps with scheduled on/off.  I am working on Alexa enabled lock and unlock functions.  We have an Echo Dot Clock in the BR and an Echo Studio speaker in the LR.  Both respond to Alexa.  "Alexa add grapes to the grocery list."  The grocery list shows up on your phone.  "Alexa, Set a cookie timer for 15 minutes", Alexa, set a burger timer for 9 minutes."  All at the same time. We can ask Alexa to turn on or off lights in the coach or at home from anywhere.

Give it a try

Let's go back to the 1950's where the au pair girl, Alexa, hand washes the dishes after the dinner party and stays in the kitchen while the "important" people discuss important things in the living room while smoking cigars. :-)

While your at it, might as well have her (on cold winter nights) warm up the bed sheets before you retire for the evening.

I hope nobody misconstrues my comment.  I meant she (Alexa) would go to the (coach) bedroom and turn on the electric blanket.  ;)

My Firestick has "Alexa".  DW and I never use her/it.  I think all 4 of our children's households are users of "Alexa" or some other type of automation.  However, there is a problem when our first granddaughter is around or we decide to discuss her....her name is Alexa and it really causes havoc when the "Alexa" hears us talking about the granddaughter.  In one conversation, we can turn off/turn on countless devices, stun and even amaze the automated home we are in.
It's nice that others have and like the automation but I like to have my manual input where I can because there is no telling what I might say!

Your coach will not be complete until you have:

Easy to make your microphor toilet flush on command, turn water pump on and off, lock or unlock your coach is equipped with electric locks, start and end fill if you have an electric fill solenoid valve, even turn on or off the water at the city water connection.

Your echo devices can be set to respond to other command words and ignore the spoken work "Alexa".

Very easy to have Alexa turn on your electric blanket of better yet set a time for it to come  on on its own and off after you are asleep, and while its at it keep track of how much power it uses.

Or rise or lower your MCD shades.

If you can imagine it it can probably happen.

Or do nothing.  Boring.
