Started my RV tonight, to charge up the battery, temp was 14 degrees, heard a buzzing sound coming from the engine, lasted for about 15 seconds then stopped.
Not sure if it was a belt or something more serious. Gauges all showed normal, temp was zero. then slowly increased to normal. Oil started out at 50 then moved up to 75 which is normal.
Engine is a Ford 460. Am hoping it was just a very cold belt. Any advice/offerings/info welcome, thank you.
May have been power steering pump, not sure if a belt could buzz.Try restarting when warm if no buzz it was cold related and your
good to go.
Agree with John44, PS pump.
Had a 460 in a Ford and when cold enough would do exactly that.
Thank you, preciate the info. Am hoping it was not a stuck starter causing damage to the flywheel. Will try to start it later today when it warms up and c what happens. Will put in here what I find. Thank you so much for the input.
If it's like the 88 Winne I had on a 87 John Deere (Oshkosh) chassis there is a second power steering pump for the power braking system. It has an electric motor for backup if you use the brakes with the engine stopped. Makes a buzzing sound.
