Title: 7 Way Tow Socket
Post by: jimgior13 on January 06, 2021, 03:53:25 pm
I have to replace my 7 way socket due to corrosion and disconnected wires.  After removing the old socket I was expecting six wires colored wires, however, I have only 5 wires,  a Red, Green and 3 white wires.  I can't find these wires called out in any electrical diagram that I have.  I've gotten the white wires narrowed dow to turn signals and running lights.  Any idea what the red and green go to?  09 Nimbus

I just rewired my '99 so maybe I can help. My lights have separate turn signals and brake/running lights so I added an adapter.  The white wires should have a number on them that would correspond to a schematic from FOT.  On my coach the larger green wire is a ground.  The small red should be the running lights.  There is a larger red wire that supplies 12volts through the plug.  I used one of these to see which wires were hot when each of the lights were on and verified with a voltmeter which one was my ground.  Amazon.com: IIT 26001 Professional 6-12V Circuit Tester - Indicator Light by... Thanks Much for this.  Interesting my bigger wire is red and the 3 whites and green are the same gauge.

Here are the standard 7 way color codes for both RV and toad/trailer: 7 Way Diagram - AJ's Truck & Trailer Center (https://www.ajtnt.com/Info/7-Way-Diagram) Your plug with 5 wires does not have the 12V aux and trailer brakes I'm guessing.
