The insulation on the top portion of the generator door of my 2006 Nimbus is starting to separate. The top layer about four inches has separated and is loose and folded over.
I assume this is just sound deadening. Or could be heat protection for the panel?
I worry if I leave it as is it will block the cooling passages of the Genet possibly causing it to over heat.
Remove it, Leave it or replace it. If replace it what to use?
I stripped off the old failing stuff in 2019 and used 3M spray adehive to install this: Amazon.com: Dynamat 11905 Hoodliner 32" x 54" x 3/4" Thick Self-Adhesive... (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00069QLVC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
It's much lighter in weight, but seems to work fine
Mine was falling out also so I replaced it with the bubble wrap with the silver backing. Don't notice any change in noise.
It says self adhesive. You used 3/M spray and the self adhesive both?
How did you attach the bubble wrap/ foil product? I see it is available at Home Depot. Is that what you used.
Yes. I was not sure the self adhesive would last, so used some 3m spray as well.
The product itself is easy to trim to fit. If I were to do it again I would use the same product.
We commutated a while ago. Now is time to do mine. I removed the old stuff with a putty knife. There is still some adhesive and traces of the old sound barrier on the door. Any recommendation to get the remaining glue and foam off. Maybe lacquer thinner or acetone, mineral spirits ??
If the old remaining glue and foam is on there firmly, I would just leave it and put the new insulation over it.
I need to work on it some more. Most of the loose stuff is off. I tried white gas and mineral spirits. Did little or nothing. New insulation arriving Monday. I will work on it some more then just install it.
Tmehrkam, I did use home depot product plus 3M spray glue. Cut all pieces to fit then glued them in one at a time. Then used silver ducting tape on all the edges.
I used a self adhesive dyna mat in my generator compartment. Used (shoe goo?) to remove old glue. It left a tacky surface that the adhesive surface on your new material will really stick too.
Oops, goo gone adhesive remover not shoe goo.
